Fanart of Puella Magi Madoka Magica, possibly the best anime I've seen in the last half-year.Picture shows Kyubee, the cute little sidekick from the show and Walpurgisnacht, a powerful witch.
The text in the middle reads "Walpurgisnacht ist endlich da" (="Walpurgisnight is finally here") and is written in rune letters the way they appear in the show.
(some of you might remember that I used those runes in a previous drawing
)I'm really proud about the composition of this - the way the 3 red street lights and the chain at the front lead your eye upwards to the witch while also framing Kyubee in the middle.
Overall, I did 3 sketches of this scenery beforehand (which is a lot to my standarts) on which I moved these elements several times until I was sadisfied.
Somehow, I felt like the whole thing could give me the chance to really pull off something good (so I was seriously trying to think things through this time
).So yeah, I feel like the colors could have more contrast in some places (especially the background), but I do like this indeed.
One of my better works up to now.
It was one of the more time-consuming assignemts I had to do and I finally got to turn it in last Friday.
While finishing this, I was mostly listening to
-Decretum and
-Magia ,
my two favorite tracks from the OST. Both very powerful songs each in their own ways.

It is indeed a really good anime. I'm overall a fan of the writer, Gen Urobochi, so other works of his (e.g. Fate Zero, Psycho Pass) are quite recommendable as well.

I actually printed this out not too long ago, because I wanted to have it signed at a convention, but it was nearly killed in a rain-shower. I gave it away after that, but I think it would look nice on someones' wall XD

I really like how this came out. The colours are rich, the shapes and lines are all stable, and the intended perspective is an interesting one but really difficult. I don't think I could pull this off as good as you have if I attempted, that is most certain. Or at least, not without a lot of trial and error. Well done.

Looking back at it now, I actually think I could have gone to greater extremes with the perspective (like, moving the red lights and the chains closer to the viewer or creating a more tilted plane). To get to this stage, it took quite some trial and error for me, too, though. I wouldn't have sketched it out 3 times before moving on to the real deal, otherwise

No worries (: That's true, with more extremes, the picture would have been all the more dynamic. I'd think this as a stepping stone if you want to try again, mmm? I have no idea how to work with perspectives so I'm a bit envious :'P
(Laughs) Oh, that's right. I skimmed your comment but I was juggling so many deviations at one time I must have mistaken your trials for another's. Oops o': . I guess I should have read full-on. Did you use watercolour or marker for this image? Mind me asking? It looks like a combination of both but I could be entirely wrong.

It's not even that much a matter of perspective, more compostition and how you place your elements (our definitions might be different here, though).
And if you're refering to the idea of 3dimensionality, then it's just a matter of practise and a bit of logical thinking. Well, I'm just trying to say it's not that hard.
Going for greater extremes would be something I'd love to correct as long as it wouldn't require me to redraw the whole image. But I'll definetly try to keep it in mind for future work.
Haha, no problem - mixups happen with many deviations
It actually is a combination, but mostly watercolors. I used markers for the small elements like the golden rings, the red gemstones and the blue and green lights in the background. That, plus some white Gel-pen for the white highlights.

And you definetly should watch this show. It starts out very similar to classic magical-girl-animes like Sailor Moon, but it turns extremely dark after a couple of episodes.
You should refrain from looking at any fanart or text about Madoka Magica beforehand, though, 'cause it's very easy to catch spoilers

I can hear Surgam Identidem looking at this... literally! I am listening to it right now! But it definitely fits the dramatic feel of that music. This is one of the best bits of Walpurgisnacht fanart I have seen ever!

Incidentally, I will someday write a fanfiction that shows where the gear part of Walpurgisnacht came from. As it stands right now, it will be a Madoka Magica/Azumanga Daioh crossover. Title? Azumagia.

as its like looking at a doll which is a witch i know,
that has created an end-of-the-world city
the creature in the shadow is awesome,

The "End of the World" was pretty much the image I wanted to get at - I also heard that from classmates who where looking at this.
Lol, since Walpurgisnachts' background was revealed to be the "Stage-constructing Witch" it's not even that far off to think of her as a doll (the way they appear in puppet shows)

My only complaint is QB's earpaw touching one of the streetlights. It's like a thumbtack, fixes my gaze there from this otherwise epic picture. That.

Actually, the street lights aren't even supposed to be anywhere near Kyubee, but much closer to the viewer. Looking at it now, I guess I should have made them much larger.
