Okay, I have a confession to make-- this one is OLD. Like two years ago old. The sketch is even more ancient. I reworked it sometime last year, and that's the version you see at current. But I still like it, overall, and that's why I use it as the theme for my homepage/gallery, avatars, etc. It was my first great success as a CG artist.

The reason this is fanart is because I used to write a lot of Final Fantasy VII fanfiction in my day, so I created a character named Sephirah who was the daughter of Aerith and Cloud, who looks like Sephiroth (don't ask). The story's name is "The Dark Phoenix" and it has a focus on vengeance and resurrection. In this pose, she is using a special materia in order to summon the darkness out of her body, hence the black glowing wings.

Beyond all of that though, this too was sketched with an 0.5 pencil on paper and then scanned, but it was never inked. All linework was done with my mouse. >_o It was my first attempt at doing so, so it's still kind of messy, especially in the hair. The background was added a year after the rest of the picture was finished, amusingly enough, when I was going back to try to augment what I already had. I thought they melded together well though, as I was afraid they'd clash terribly.
