Description "So... who makes the first move?"

This is a Christmas request for shinakazami1 . There's some lovely symbolism in Klaymen and Klogg playing chess.

The poses were really, really hard. The sketch took two hours of frustration because I kept redrawing their limbs. Then I was too exhausted to make proper colouring (it's an A4), so I just slapped some sepia background on it and was done with it. Though I must say, I like how the shading turned out. The picture has three layers - one lineart, one colour (in multiply mode) and one shading (in burn mode, about 50% opacity). The shading layer is entirely grey, but as it's set to burn mode, it copies and deepens the background colour instead. I really like that effect. *digital painting noob*

Is this lineart digital? If yes, it looks just like ZIG. If not, it still looks amazing.

Well, basically I use the inspiration that you give me. Then my work inspires you, and so it goes in a nice circle.

Nope, the lineart is traditional. My hand isn't steady enough to draw digital sketches or linearts. And it's not ZIG exactly, but a similar brush-marker.

Originally there were going to be evil Klogg and evil Klaymen behind their good counterparts, whispering in their ears. But I completely failed at drawing bad Klogg, so I erased him and instead erased the evil selves altogether.

I think that technically, unless you go in circles, a chess game must be finite. So technically, there's a finite amount of pen and paper you'll need for this puzzle.

I asked shina for a request because I didn't send her anything for Christmas, even though she sent pictures to me. If you're satisfied with half-assed colouring like this, I can throw some colour on that Dake and Ottimo sword fight and submit it.
