Description

Hello everyone 👋

I finally mustered up writing some lore for the map, despite it laying finished for a while.

Before you ask: Yes, I made this solely on a computer.

Here's the lore for the scenario:

The situation

Spain's influence still runs deep in the South American continent. It deals with criollos on one side and backs the many rebel groups on the other. The former Spanish colonies are deeply divided between each other yet the one thing that they’ve got in common is their subservience to Spanish companies. The influence of the Criollos still runs deep even after the declaration of equality in 1812. They’ve kept up a facade of democracy while bolstering their own wealth outside of the rigged elections. They’re happy to keep up border conflicts to keep their people focused on external issues manufactured by them instead of the festering corruption present in their nations.

Exploitation of Nature

Nations like Cochamba constantly dig into the Andes, extracting truly enormous amounts of Iron, Tungsten, Gold, and Silver from the mountains every hour to fuel Spain’s industry instead of their own. The jungles are being domesticated and subjugated through intense deforestation projects spearheaded by Interficiam. Native people are forced out of their homes in the name of progress while the aim is actually money. Blood, sweat and Iron mines are common throughout the countries, labour laws haven’t advanced in decades and child labour is still widespread in all of Soiuth America. This intense focus on mining and the conquering of nature even led to the nation of Argentina virtually ignoring the Patagonian peninsula (to the natives delight) until natural gas was found there wherein the tribes of the region were swiftly subjugated.

Political prisoners and the facade of democracy

Faint promises of liberty are made by the leading Criollos of the nations while infighting is prominent in the rest of the rigid caste system which the Criollos have maintained since the De Jure independence of the Latin American colonies. This rampant usage of South America’s plethora of natural resources has led to a massive growth in wealth - not for the Latin American countries - but instead, for the pockets of the Spanish monopolists. Every five years, Madrid decides the ambitious economic goals of the Latin American Economic zone which often leaves no room for environmental considerations. Furthermore, slave-like conditions are forced upon people in the many “Development Centres” where insane quotas and equally insane punishments are given to past-criminals as punishments for their relatively minor crimes.

Latin America ranks almost at or below the level of the many infamous African dictatorships in terms of the democracy index. Despite this, little care is given by the public to these conditions. Furthermore, much care is given to the public perception of the Criollo leaders in the state controlled newspapers to maintain popular support. There is much uncertainty regarding Development Centres listed on the map. The few locations we’ve listed are from the ever rare escapees and there may be many more of them in locations even harder to escape.

History

Much of this stems back to Spain’s iron-fist-rule of the continent which it has maintained ever since it sat foot on it. All of this was planned by the Spanish monarchy, business conglomerates, and Criollos during and after the Napoleonic wars. Little is known exactly when or where this planning was done yet the effects of it are apparent. Spain and France have been close cooperators in this widespread exploitation of former colonies. Madrid has taken great inspiration from doctrines like Françafrique in South America to a more successful and no doubt more oppressive result. Spain is known worldwide as a mass-producer of both wood, iron and furniture and companies like Interficiam and Ballesteros are known worldwide for their excellent furniture and Iron production respectively.

Change

Many movements striving for change have appeared in the last decade. Whether it be disgruntled workers or simply reformers seeking to better their country they all share a common goal. However, these movements are swiftly picked up by the experienced spies and union busters leading to their leaders being executed. As of now, the future of South America looks bleak and reform looks to be as far away as it has ever been.

Also, there'll be a collab with Telamon Tabulicus soon!
