Description Well I was at my Mom's this morning and as I rummaged through some of my effects I found this!

Its a Picture I took the last time I was at Strasburg PA.

As I'm sure you know this is the Viginia & Trucke RR's 2-6-0 locomotive "Tahoe". Built in 1875 and some how has survived the rath of man.

An absolutely GEORGOUS locomotive! And it's part of a Concept/idea I have about starting a tourist business he in MB (Myrtle Beach). I'd love to get my hands on it and restore the locomotive to full working order so I could operate it along the old "Wackamaw Coast Line RR" trackage between Myrtle Beach and Conway SC.

But seeing that I'm homless and virtually broke it remains to be an idea on the "Back Burner".

I've got a Head On shot too and I'll post it later. Hope you guys like!

PS: !!!DO NOT FAV UNLESS YOU COMMENT!!!

Neat idea with restoring this engine. I have $3 I'll donate..

Well, I still think it's a good idea... but I've given up on it. Myrtle Beach is so lousy and corrupted that they would dare listen to anything that makes a lick of sense. They spent 14 million dollars on a single ride/attraction, the "Sky Wheel", to try and bring more tourism. There is almost nothing of its history in preservation. The city restored their railway depot... but almost no one is allowed to check it out. It's always locked up an has been turned into what is basically the political party house for the area. Myrtle beach has left quite a sore spot for me, unfortunately.

Yes, Myrtle Beach isn't the best place around for tourist operations. If you become a millionaire one day, build a tourist railroad on the Outer Banks! I would certainly ride it!

If I, God willing, became a millionaire, I'd probably build a preservation line in either Colorado, Nevada, or Arizona. The Morenci Southern would be a great railroad to reconstruct. It was famous for its loops so that it could gain elevation to get to Old Morenci, which is now a massive open pit copper mine. Then there's the United Verde & Pacific RR which ran from what is now Chino Valley, AZ to Jerome, AZ. That would be a wonderfully scenic line, being just shy of 26 miles.

Then there's Nevada, reconstructing Mongomery Pass from the old Colorado & Carson RR would be a short, but very enjoyable ride with the hand full of bridges and the only tunnel on the line. And then there is the famous, but little remembered Nevada Central Narrow Gauge, running 93 miles from Battle Mountain, NV to just outside Austin City to the south. All of the roads are narrow gauge. Though one standard gauge line that would be fun to ride again is the Santa Fe, Prescott & Phoenix RR. Especially the Ganite Dells area which is just outside Prescott, AZ. Sadly that portion is now a bike trail.

I say build a line on the Morenci Southern! Then again, Nevada Central seems good..

The Morenci Southern is certainly the more interesting of the two. The Nevada Central was nearly a 93 mile strait line. Hence one of it's nicknames, "A line in the sand".

They both seem interesting, but it wouldn't be fun in the summer!

It is isn't it!

I like all steam engines, but my affinity for them are for those built back in the 1800s. Back then steam locomotives were as much art as they were machines of industry!

PS: By the way, this loco was built in the 1870s!! XD

Trust me, I love 1800's Steam locomotives more than modern diesel engines any day! X3

I would give to see these fire breathing beauties back in action. ^w^

Well... There are a few! The Nevada State Railroad museum has a few of the original Virginia & Truckee locos still in operation! Also the Baltimore & Ohio RR's #25, the "William Mason" (built in 1851!!) is still in operation! And there are many more! Sierra Railway's #3, the "Movie Star" returned to service last year after an exstensive overhaul. It was built way back in 1891!

I found a train similar to this one at the Steamtown National Historic site. I woundered off through the yard and spotted almost a train like this

Those are interesting 2-6-0's there! Though I'm not too fond of foot board pilots.

Also I don't think any were of the Tahoe. The wheel bases seemed spot on but the Tahoe has a strait boiler, all the engine's I saw were wagon tops.

But what would be REALLY AWSOME would be a Trainz version of the V&T's 2-4-0 "J.W. Bowker"!

He and TBryson are Considering it, And Pencil42 showed me a Cooler Version of the Same Type of 2-4-0 with a Blueish Paint Scheme...

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

gunslinger87 In reply to Sampug394 [2009-04-21 20:32:25 +0000 UTC]

A Blue-ish scheme!!?!

I hope they do a black version, at least I think that's who the Bowker was painted while portraying his role as "McPherson" in Union Pacific.

But as long as they get the stack right I'll be happy! Right now the stack has the top portion copletely gone! In similar style to the Tahoe's stack.

The HO scale model produced by AHM/Riverossi, physicaly speaking and not color, is more accurate.

Sampug394 In reply to gunslinger87 [2009-04-21 23:59:08 +0000 UTC]

Yes Blue-ish. The Locomotive is V & T #9 "I. E. James":

That's nice but I think a duller shade of blue should be used.

I seems awfully bright and obnoksious compared to the rest of the scheme.

I can imagine it would be perfect to haul a few old-time cars around... steel heavyweights might be out of its league, but perhaps some wooden equipment (or, heavens forbid, cabooses XD) would do the trick!
