Just out of curiosity, did the watercolors run a lot? I've been thinking for a while of doing a portrait but I've never used watercolor.. I'm debating if I want to do watercolors or oils..?

well, yes and no. The kind of puddle and then I blot them with a cloth to remove the excess water. I like the effect that gives. It help to have your paper at a slight angle (my art table is at 15 degrees) that way the water is more predictable. It also help when doing a large wash, because the water will pool at the bottom of you stroke which will allow you to slightly overlap your next stroke to pick up that excess water. I've been wanting to try oils myself. I've dabbled in them a little, but never very much. One thing I can tell you is that watercolor will be MUCH faster. On the other hand, oils have always been the traditional medium for portraits. And it would have a much longer lifespan. Hope that helped.
