Description A large panorama of downtown Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

The image consists of a total of 47 individual photos, about 12 photos wide by 4 photos high.

Processing time was roughly 7 hours as the stitching program I used doesn't automatically stitch together photos that are stacked on top of other panoramas.

Final full size of the Panorama was 33894x7009.

Due to reasonable constraints, the full size is not available. It is, however, available at 60% size (17998x3722) and available for download (Please check it out full view!)

For camera techies:

Very nice. I currently have a gigapan Epic Pro on loan from my college. Been meaning to go up there and do one of these.
where exactly did you shoot this from for that cool angle.

Overlook has a few lights, nothing spectacular. Dark enough not to cause lighting problems.

I need to get up there again and redo my shots.

Very Nice! I also am into panoramas and would like some advice on how to get them exibited with DeviantArt, H. P.S I'm from just outside of Pgh.

How do you mean by "Exibited"? Just posted on to DA?

I'm quite new to DeviantArt and it seems like a good place for others to view and critique my images...

It is, totally. There's plenty of things that I DON'T like about Deviantart (main thing is: Art theft. You have to be really careful about that...), but it's certainly helped me to get recognized with my work.

Panorama's are tough to upload because you cannot upload them in full size (that'd be a terrible idea just about anywhere), so you have to find a good size to upload them that is far lower than what they can be. Some of mine are maxed out at 1600 wide, others are about 4,000 wide for finer detail, but still considerably smaller than the originals.

Before I upload my pans to Deviant I want to border them using Gimp. There is a lot I don't know about the "size" numbers relative to digital images beingst that my background and training was w/film.

GTX-Media In reply to Vanwent [2012-10-17 04:39:30 +0000 UTC]

Not much I'd be able to do to help you there, also since none of my stuff is bordered.

Great Photo!! I live in the Pittsburgh Area and I have never come across a better photo of the city. Awesome job!

Are you selling digital copies of this photo? I am a Graphic Designer and a client would love to use this in a large display in their lobby. It would be spread across 3 acrylic panels that are approximately 48" x 37". I would need to know if this is something that you are willing to do as soon as you can. I might need to move onto another photo if I don't hear back from you in a few days. I love your photos and I hope this might work out for you and my client. Thanks!

It was a project I just thought of doing. I was like "I see people doing Panoramas, but they're all so small. I want something BIGGER!!", so this was born ^.^

I hope to see yours soon!

Thanks ^^ And cool, I wanted to venture down farther...but it was a really cold night and the wind was killer

When I went up and did that Panorama I only had a T-Shirt on, khaki pants, and shoes with virtually no foot cover (holes galore) in about 5ΒΊF weather and decently high winds.... and stood there taking shots for about 2 hours...

...then I proceeded to head over to Mt. Washington for about another hour taking more shots XD.

Oh gosh I'm a skinny little thing so my two pairs of pants, hoodie, scarf, beanie and jacket were not helping at all.

Ha. Trust me, I was pretty cold too, but I was getting this Pano done! The night was pretty much perfect with how clear it was and that doesn't happen too often with Pittsburgh!

GTX-Media In reply to csoro [2011-03-13 18:00:51 +0000 UTC]

Thanks! I've been to many areas of the city trying to find good overlook spots (Besides the two more obvious known ones), and figured that the spot there had to be the best one for a Pano.

I want to try up o Mt Washington, which gives a wider angle of the enter city, but it's more directly on the city.
