Well, then. I'm still voting for toothpaste, except *he's* out. Ever since (significant/traumatic event, be it transformation/accident/market shortage of meds), Dail has serious issues dealing with his OCD (which ironically enough was not caused by his ORP). The serious problem is that he has the wrong brand of toothpaste in his bathroom this morning, and he canNOT move on through the rest of his day without rectifying this first--for which, he needs Lucie's help, as she works as a resource manager at the Department of Services for the Recently Over-Regenerated Persons. (DSRORP)

In this dystopian future, there has been so much radioactive fallout in the last fifteen years from world wars over water resources that regular injections and detoxification are expected of everyone. However, this procedure is not only uncomfortable, but it is also painful. Leading scientists discovered methods of making bodies permanently 120% more resistant to carcinogenesis, resulting in an incredibly decreased likelihood of death by cancer, infertilization or any of those other nasties. This was society's savior, saving a scant <.01%, who instead of their bodies rejecting and fighting off rampantly growing cancer cells...decide to JOIN IN with the cancer cells--ALL of them.

After the first few years of initial panic, which led to a few of these poor souls being put down behind locked government doors, (who as first generation aberrations suffered much more physical pain and many mentally cracked), those who are from second generation (those who had slower reaction to the side effects), thanks to civil rights groups and public outrage, were able to receive treatments that eased the transition to such a degree that their bodies transformed all in accord with the other parts and plenty of anesthetics kept the pain within a manageable threshold.

Dail was lucky enough to be second generation. Everyone thinks his OCD is ORP related, but it's not. He's been like this since longer than Lucie can remember.

Same deal as always! You tell me what happens on page four, and I'll try to draw it.

Okay was thinking this over a bit. I think that she might try to manipulate him into leaving her alone.

Most of the time, OCD people can't explain why they 'need' what they need. Occasionally there is a reason for part of it, but when in a panic-state, it becomes extremely difficult, frequently impossible, to think of it. If she's used to being around him, knows him well enough to have at least a slight understanding of how it works, she could easily be aware of this. So here's what I was thinking.

Something like, "Tell you what, if you can give me some sort of reason why the whitening isn't good enough, I'll help. Otherwise, I'm going back to sleep."
Or maybe
...give me any decent reason why... and/or ...going back to my day off."

I would expect he would probably look a bit panicked for a moment or so as he tried to think of any reason at all. Which, as I mentioned, is incredibly difficult for someone with the disorder. Not to mention, most of the time there is no reason for whatever the OCD triggered issue... She might smirk or roll her eyes or something, go to close the blinds again.

Just as she's about to close the blinds/curtains, it finally occurs to him. Something like, "Wait!" She looks back out at him, maybe with a sigh, or maybe resting her hand against her face. probably hoping that he didn't actually think of something.

"Tartar causes cavities, so tartar-fighting would do a better job of preventing cavities. Whitening it might hide it instead of removing it. So I need the tartar-fighting toothpaste!"

No doubt she would be frustrated that she managed to trap herself into agreeing to help out, because the reason does have a bit of logic to it.

Well if he'd come to me I'd help him out immediately- I've got the same damn disorder. "What? Toothpaste? ON IT! Meantime... can you get that branch that's scraping my roof every time there's a breeze? It's irkin' the hell out of me..." *runs after toothpaste*

Ah! I don't actually know anyone who has OCD, so if I do something wrong with Dails character, it's now your job to jump on me!

So far I've just been basing them on Adrian Monk and Sharona from the show Monk. ;;>.>

Monk is definitely an interesting character. OCD has different degrees of severity, and his is rather severe.

Some of the most common ways OCD effects people is hygiene and counting. Almost always there is at least one thing that they feel the need to count. It doesn't mean they count everything, but usually something random. It could be something they see all the time, or something they only come across occasionally. Feeling the need to have something clean and/or organized is common too. (Bravo- teeth cleaning is great for that.)

Other ways the organizing shows itself could be things like having pencils lined up on their desk or having shirts in a particular order in their closet. It doesn't mean they do it with everything, but there's typically a couple things they need to have set up perfectly. With Dail, it seems rather likely he'd need his cabinet with his toothpaste, floss, etc. in a particular order.

Counting and numbers usually show up in some way. It could be something like touching doorknobs a certain number of times (I know someone who touches square pillows four times), or making sure something is done a certain number of times (for example, I always have my car alarm beep three times when I lock it, and I always have five spare lightbulbs in a drawer; I have a friend who always knocks on the door in patterns of seven).

I like the toothpaste thing, it's a great choice. For him, it looks kind of like it doesn't necessarily have to be a specific brand, but just certain aspects of the toothpaste, (tartar fighting necessary, never having whitening for concern that whitening could hide tartar).

So far I like Dails character, but it might be a good idea to plan out ahead some of what is going to influence him.

(totally jumping in on this train, you are wonderful Ridel, I need not remind you of this)

I'm not really sure the depth of poor Dali's OCD (Who is adorbs by the way) but I know that it can cause major anxiety, like most OCDs do. I actually knew a guy with a particular ODC who had to have things in a straight line....he had this unique little tic where he cleared his throat three times to like...reset himself or something...he was a great person though!

Anyway I digress! Haha I doubt Lucie has anything currently in her possession to help him with his "emergency"; but as resource manager of DSRORP, she probably has the means to get a hold of some toothpaste (though it might take a good minute considering she's on her day off!).

It seems like she's know him for a while...long enough to be annoyed, but not entirely off kilter by him (Still very miffed though!) . Maybe she knows he has a ritual that he could do to calm himself down while she tries to make a few calls? Something to trigger order and not focus on his teeth? Probably something ridiculous like touching the tip of your nose and saying the alphabet....what an odd sight that would be XD.

If you say so.

I don't actually know anyone with OCD, so I've been basing their interactions on the main character from Monk, The defective detective and his nurse, Sharona.

Oh man, I can just see it now. He starts his calming ritual, and then some kid in the apartment downstairs wakes up because of the noise. He walks over to his window and opens the blind, only to find a giant outside, touching his nose and reciting the alphabet.

Dail:... What?
Kid: Mooooooooom!

Calming ritual is an interesting idea...

Personally, I've never found those calming rituals to be any help. At least, it doesn't help me. At times, people who hear about that stuff will try to repeatedly tell me to try it, and it can end up making matters worse. My friend, who also has OCD, has yet to find one that works for her either. It all depends on the individual, as well as if they have other problems aside from the OCD (which many do, sometimes just as bad or worse, sometimes minor and hardly noticeable).

And Loool! Oh the chaos toothpaste can ensue.

Really?! Man! no one I talk to has ever watched that show! I haven't even seen all of it. I had to rely on old video tapes that my uncle sent my dad, which were mostly Star Trek episodes with one or two Monk episodes thrown in. >:I

I thought it was a popular show! They use to have Monk marathons on the holidays, like, all the time ;A;

You know, if Lucie has a very dry personality, she might say something along the lines of, "Yeah, you need *some* kind of toothpaste right now that's for sure," before reminding him of said possible calming ritual(s).

She would probably just refuse the offer and then try to walk away, wanting to spend her day off in piece when he'd grab her, saying that "I'm sorry, I was trying to be nice but you're the only one who can help me" hahah I can also expect her to say "What? It's not like I'm the chosen one of some show"

but probably other people have better ideas .__. This is going great so far!! <3 ...I have whitening toothpaste....it doesnt make me crazy! o__e
