Description Costume: Oerba Dia Vanille - Final Fantasy XIII

100% HANDMADE! Another full body side shot. There is so much to this costume, it's really hard getting in all of the details. Fun to wear though.

Amazing cosplay You ook so much like her! I came across this when searching for ideas on how to make my own oerba dia vanille cosplay. Surprisingly the bit im having most trouble is is the skirt xD I think its because there is very few pictures showing exactly what it looks like. How did you make yours? Did you do the gradient colouring with the orange/yellow with fabric dye? Hope you dont mine the questions!

Why thank you so much!! Yeah, when I made her skirt I didn't have like, any reference pictures. I actually had to drag out the skirt to remember! It's been so long since I've made it! xD Okay, so I made it with 3 pieces. The bottom layer is slightly gathered to give it a bunched up look. Then I added a band-like piece over that (since the reference picture sort of looked like that). Then the final piece was the front piece that was dyed! For that, I had a strip of yellow fabric. I dyed that strip orange. How I did that was by holding the strip in the orange dye, but stopping about an inch above where I wanted the dye to end. Then, when I was certain the dye was good, wearing rubber gloves, I turned the piece upside down and let the dye SLOWLY drip down. It doesn't go much, but it helps get that gradual color change.

I'm also sorry that I didn't response sooner! But I hope this helped! I'm not that great at explaining things. xD But if you have any more questions, please feel free to ask! I'm here to help!

looks really great!!!!!

i' gonna be doing a vanille cosplay in may^^ how'd you make her weapon, and with what?

and how'd you do her necklaces?

and what kind of beads did you use?

sorry about all the questions ^^''

Haha, don't worry about all of the quesitons! Well, her weapon is made out of PVC piping, and piping connectors. It is then covered with very light clay. For her necklaces, for the one with all of the beads, I bought a choker necklace and put the beads all around it. Her other two I found the necklaces at JoAnn's, and then added super skinny ribbon and laced it around each of them. As for the beads, just standard beads, like the ones that are multi-colored, and are often found in the kid craft section. Some I did have to paint to get the right color.

This is pretty much just an overview, but if you still have questions, feel free to ask!!

Sure, sure!

Alrighty, for the weapon. It is made of PVC piping, I believe 1/2 inch (that is the diameter of the pipe). I also used 45 degree angled pipe connector's to keep them together, (which pretty much made all of the curves on the top part of the weapon) and also piping glue. All of these can be found at a Menard's or Lowe's, or anything of the sort. The piping glue is essential, since without it, the piping will not stay together. Also make sure when using the piping glue that the pipe is connected to where you want it, since after it dries it will not move. After I constructed it, I used super light modeling clay and covered the top with it. I used super light clay for the sole purpose of the weapon being lighter. And make sure the clay AIR DRIES. That is very important. I spray painted it all white, and for the gold tips and the gold round things in the middle (I'm not quite sure they have a name... XD) I also made out of the clay. I painted them gold, and for the round things in the middle, the black base was clay, and the gold things on top of it were clay too. For her handle I used twine and hand wrapped the entire thing... and hot glued it to keep it in place. But pretty much it is PVC piping and clay. I hope that is a little better! Again, feel free to keep asking if you have any more quesitons.

thanks!!!!

sorry i didn't reply, but i was re-reading it to think about it^^

ok, i don't remember if i've asked this, but what about the leather weave that's used for the grip of the weapon????

also if you have any good reference pics of vanille or the cosplay, that'd be great!!! i need to determine (in my mind) where everything is.... especially the skirt and the multiple things that are around her waist.

finally got the game and i LOVE it!!!

The leather weave I actually used tweed. Leather was too expensive at the time, but I kind of twisted it around and around until it covered the grip. Not the most accurate description, but just fiddle with the tweed (which can be found at JoAnn's) and just sort of wrap it around.
