The Spy Who Loved Me (1977)

The film -third to star Roger Moore- that is recognized today as the film that defined the Roger era. It was certainly, in scale, the largest production the franchise had seen in 10 years. It was a film that dazzled with amazing sets, exotic locations and a (mostly) clever script. Production designer Ken Adam was once again allowed to run free, particularly with the Atlantis and super tanker sets. Everywhere you looked in this movie, it was bigger.

Except the performances of the actors. Particularly Barbara Bach, whose performance made Ashton Kutscher look like Kenneth Branagh. Also coming up short in the range of expression department was veteran actor (and usually quite a good one) Curt Jurgens whose monotone Stromberg did not test his talents.

How amusing though that from one movie to the next, Roger Moore should face off against both one of the shortest actors in Hollywood and one of the tallest?

Whatever its shortcomings, and overrated or not, The Spy Who Loved me breathed critical new life into the franchise and firmly established Roger as THE James Bond of the new generation...

Who was actually one year older than Sean.

Here we find KP in that amazing stunt by the equally amazing Rick Sylvester that sounded the beginning of the 'new era' with the snap of the firecracker.
