The half gems were defeated, human forms rendered inert without their Gem's to keep them going.

A dark kind of milase fell upon the world, a tenacious paranoia for the next attacking seemingly permeating the air at all times, leaving no one able to live without it hovering over them. But the Crystal Gems weren't going to wait around for the oncoming storm to hit their home once again and leave it ruined but standing. Steven chief among them.

Understanding the cost to constantly transforming into his corrupted form, Steven underwent a transformation into a 'Safer' form, slimmer and shorter, but no less powerful, Steven's sixth form proved an almost invaluable aid to the defense of Earth. A truth made clear to all when the form of Emerald Moonstone appeared, a form nearly 200 and fifteen meters tall towering over Beach City and it's people.

Steven fought bravely, his power and the aid of Alexandrite and Chrysocolla giving him a chance, but the towering plant-like half Gem monster proved more violent and tenacious than even the King of the Monsters had been. Even the fusion of all seven Gems proved inadequate to take their foe down. Such was the fury of the new threat, the Obsidian Diamond fusion the Crystal Gems had united into was torn apart, returned back to the three it had been just moments before.

Separated, weakened and exhausted, Steven could do little but watch on as his enemy moved to finish him off. But just as Emerald Moonstone moved to make the killing blow, a blast of obsidian and lava light struck it's body, knocking it back into the ocean from whence it came.

This time... the King of Monsters wasn't the only giant half gem beast combating evil.
