I like to use the h and b pencils. I'll use 3 or 4 h for light shading, 5h for sketching, and 3b for dark shading. If I need to go darker like for the pupil I will. Then I'll use a tissue paper or one of those white blend sticks to blend. I use a gum eraser to erase shading. I think that's about it.
