Hum, the manga does boast a very graphic-y, pattern-y, Klimt-y, Toppi-y style, so the solid black only adds to the effect.

Well, Gustav Klimt is mostly brought up in art history (he worked at the beginning of the 20th century but his style is definitely a source of inspiration). Sergio Toppi, however, is a comic artist you DEFINITELY want to look up...
