Description his fryness.
well-mannered deviant, debauched intellectual and advocate for all things urbane.
if i had to choose only one person in the world to talk to for the rest of my life, it would probably him.

well, it's certainly the heavier end of his weight spectrum (which seems to vary constantly), but i decided to go for a less idealised portrait, because he truly knows what living and indulging MEANS - including all the consequences that come with it, may they be good or bad.
great man in every sense of the word.

thank you for your comment.

ow...What can i say... a decent answer to a decent artist, you're real one!
may be you're right...
may be it's need to find a golden mean... to flatter him a bit to make him glad and at the same time to show his real appearance...
oh, it's the problem of all portraits...
you're welcome! anyway You have drawn Stephen Fry! Congratulations!

hehehe. i doubt he'll ever see this thing.
and like i implied before: i don't think i have flatter him to show honest admiration. he's also very much aware of what he calls his flaws if one can believe his autobiography.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

TurquoiseSpark In reply to greyfin [2011-04-07 18:08:39 +0000 UTC]

Who knows?
i get your point
have you read his autobiography?
and what is your favourite Fry's activity?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

greyfin In reply to TurquoiseSpark [2011-04-07 18:26:26 +0000 UTC]

not read (currently lacking time). listened to the audio book, also because i like his voice.
what do you mean by "favourite fry's activity"? if you refer to which of his "sins" i find fascinating, then i guess it's his knack for oniomania, because there's something quite symptomatical for the western culture he respresents so splendidly.
if you refer to which of his views i can personally relate to, then it's the renaissance/humanism attitude. more people should share that zest for knowledge and personal growth combined with need a tolerance and morality. perfect combination, imho.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

TurquoiseSpark In reply to greyfin [2011-04-08 18:35:22 +0000 UTC]

Sorry… by activity I meant his acting, writing, twitting, TV show presenting and so on… He does a great amount of different things at the same time, he’s involved in different projects. Do you like him more as an actor or a writer? For me the choice is obvious … writing and narrating, I do love his gentle, nice, sweet smooth voice
I cannot judge him for his oniomania too he buys what he likes, spending his own money and making himself happy a bit… I share his love to sweets and cakes…
As for the views … his renaissance/humanism attitude sounds good but idealistic...
I support his ideas concerning the English language.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

greyfin In reply to TurquoiseSpark [2011-04-08 20:56:33 +0000 UTC]

of course he is way too idealistic, but he can afford that position as a writer. he's not a politician and more of a philosopher than an activist after all.
i agree with your preferences, although i do have another perspective on the english language as i'm not a native speaker.

stephen fry is not a common name outside of the anglophile community. very few may remember blackadder, but otherwise - NADA..
i just happen to like english television much more than german. german programms are mostly unimaginative aside from comedy (yes, we do have a sense of humor). reason: pretty much everything that isn't news or soap opera is imported US stuff (and has been since 1945).

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

AlexE88 In reply to greyfin [2011-04-06 16:15:55 +0000 UTC]

I thought not is there quite a big Anglophile community? (this is me having a temporary blonde moment, I bet it is quite a big community)

We get a massive amount of US TV here as well (I think a large percent of the world does) but we have a mildly decent amount of our own TV (though I can't stand any of our popular soaps either... so annoying and always miserable.)

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

greyfin In reply to AlexE88 [2011-04-06 16:39:21 +0000 UTC]

well, if it's not the shows themselves, it's the formats which are imported ("who wants to be a millionaire", "germany's next topmodel", "german idol" and all that other horse manure).
german television is devived into quasi-federal channels similar to the the BBC (which also host regional stations) and private channels similar to ITV - there is also pay-tv, but that's not as commonly used as it is elsewhere in the world.
federal channels produce really good documentaries and are the more reliable news source, but their entertainment segment is aimed at ... well, how can i say that without being impolite ... aimed at a more "mature" audience (what the heck, let's be open: mostly granny romance and folklore crap). private stations have the big budget for showing hollywood productions, but are otherwise shallow.

so what can you do living in such a media desert? shutting off the tv and read or turn to watching foreign programs via stream are the only anwers that don't involve drilling a whole in your head.

but a large anglophile community? not really. many germans appreciate black british humor and mr bean is VERY popular, but aside from that ...
