i loved watching my mom make pies. and i still to this day can't do it the way she does, no matter how many times i have her show me techniques.

I'd imagine with cooking, like many creative things, other people can learn the technique, theories and measurements but there are certain small details that an individual adds that is sometimes difficult or impossible to duplicate.
