OMG WAAANT THIS BABY. You guys, I can't even.

Bid for baby #1 at *Hazel-rah 's weanling auction.

I had meant to draw him as a weanling, but for some reason I wound up with a yearling-y sketch I liked and so... this. So consider it an if-I-win-him drawing.

I agonized over what to call this guy. I really did. I was playing with the science vs. religion theme for a while (a mashal is a sort of religious fable, and One Way Syringe, well...), but couldn't manage to find something that would keep to my one-word name rule, so then I wanted to see if I could find something to do with medicine in Arabic... which eventually led to Rohan, meaning "ascending" or "healing" in Sanskrit and close enough to my original science vs. religion schtick that I kept it.

I was getting that itch again; the same one which had precluded Veridical's purchase and the birth of the Brazen Fields Thoroughbred lines. Only, this time, the source of the itch wasn't the siren call of the racetrack, but rather the sight of three black Arabs floating along fences on the property. Lately the KIT mutant line was dominating my thoughts, culminating in this damn itch. An itch for more of them. Something that would be a little difficult if I only had this one gene pool to work with.

The obvious solution to such a problem was Double Dance's blowout sale, which saw DD Bahij and the mighty DD Mash'al pass through the ring, but we were too late to catch that one, and it was with regrets that we heard of the chestnut stallion's transfer to another stable. Then, DD announced that it was having another auction, this time a weanling sale. Two arabs were among the offerings: a homozygous black-based greying filly out of DD's Al Zahra, and--I couldn't believe our luck--a colt by Mash'al himself.

I hurried out to Double Dance to see the youngster myself, and when I saw the dark golden colt I very nearly couldn't contain my glee. His conformation was exquisite, with a powerful core perched atop long, fine legs. He was prancing like a halter champion, honeyed fuzz of a tail flagging. He eyeballed me, a glint of intelligence behind his gaze, and I was immediately won over. He had to be mine.
