Description Part of a creativity-boosting challenge ~Tactical-Muffin imposed on me earlier tonight, in hopes that I will eventually get to the point where I can look at everyday objects and animals, and think to myself "hey, this random object would make a great mechanical design!" and "hey, these two animals would make a great creature design!" And so, he showed me a relatively normal-looking vacuum cleaner, and after a few minutes of staring at it I decided that if you turn it sideways, it would make a wicked-cool energy pulse rifle or something. I was somewhat inspired by the Prawn weapons from District 9, hence the orange color scheme.

And so here you have it, the Vacuum Blaster. No, it doesn't fire hypercompressed dust bunnies at lethal velocity, but it IS designed to fire and "overcharge" energy musket rounds, getting the most destructive force out of each 15mm sphere that is possible, much more so than the original Kyrdan energy musket. It can also be configured (with a swap of firing chambers and mag wells) to fire a larger, HE canister round. The major differences between this weapon and the energy musket are that the energy musket is a Kyrdan weapon of H'ruun manufacture, whereas this gun was made by humans, and while the energy musket is an infantry weapon, this gun is a heavy support weapon, capable of a much higher rate of fire and destructive capabilities of each round than the original Kyrdan weapon. And that's pretty much the whole thing.

It kind of has that Halo Covenant weapon feel mixed with the style of Half-Life and Dead Space weapons.

Awesome! Yes, it kinda came out looking a bit like the concussion rifle from Halo Reach, at least in terms of the shape of the handgrip and stuff, but I was mostly inspired by District 9, hence the orange color scheme.

Also, I have never only played a tiny bit of Dead Space, but I used Google and yes, I do see a resemblance of this weapon to some of the guns in that game. Also, what Half-Life gun were you reminded of?

Oh yeah, it does kinda look like HL's gravity gun.

Remember when you were a kid and you grabbed random household objects and pretended they were blaster guns and stuff?

Yeah. Keeping that ability into adulthood is where some of the best art and ideas come from.

Agreed, definitely agreed. I never even thought of it that way before.

The Millenium Falcon was inspired by a half-eaten porkburger with an olive next to it.

Sorry for double post, but I just remembered I heard that Slave 1 (Boba Fett's ship) was inspired by the shape of a street light fixture :3

Wow...I never knew that before. It seems sorta strange using food as an inspiration for mechanical designs though...I can understand household tools, random objects, etc. but food? Ah well, whatever works, I guess.

Thanks...come to think of it, there are one or two things I am not happy with about this gun, so I will probably redo them and make a second, revised version eventually.
