I never got into Undertale, but I always found the fanart to be infinitely more appealing and better than the game ever was, I actually found out about the game through fanart and was disappointed to see how minimalistic theΒ game is.Β
My favorite part of your painting is the skulls in the background, the perfectly placed brush strokes give a really creamy look to the painting that makes it look traditional. I'm not into Sans but I like how they all have a similar emotion too, I kind of find it more humorous than scary. Though it might be because I'm not into the lore of the game though. Congrats on the DD, you definitely have quite the talent for painting!Β

Gotta say, if you turn away from games because of their retro styling or minimalism, hohoho son, you're missing out on a lot more than just Undertale.
But considering the expectations you built up through what you saw in the art being your introduction to it, I guess it makes sense.

Personally I just find the style to often be overdone. I've grown up with the genre but the new games made now just seem like they are just trying too hard and piggybacking on the nostalgia to make up for lack of trying to make something original. It just gives off an independent game look. Β Their are some exceptions because I do love some 8 bit art, and I've tried it myself and I suck. I guess I just don't like that type of game because their isn't any other 8 bit game that look appealing to me either and I've looked. Even as a kid I steered away from them because I just didn't enjoy them. Undertale just got under my skin because of all the 8 bit games, I've been seeing these characters pop up everywhere I look.Β
Exactly, I was honestly expecting the game to look something like an anime or a painterly like style from fanart I saw, the 8 bit look to me just doesn't fit the characters imo. It looked very pretentious. But in the end of the day to each his own, I just wanted to explain my thoughts.Β

While it is a shame that Mr. Tsao didn't choose my request, I will admit that this is a much better choice. It's creepy as hell, true to the character, and honestly makes me feel that I am, indeed, about to have a very bad time fighting Sans. Very good job, and congrats on your Daily Devation!
