I love guitars and traditional drawing, and this is like a Venn diagram of the best of both.
Ultra-cool!

Great realism, and I like the motive too.
I like how the "wrinkly" texture on the hand plays against the smooth guitar.

Super work Ani. Β The black background is wonderful it really makes the piece pop. Does your husband play the guitar?

Thanks Β ! He loves the drawing so I'm really pleased Β He does play, every spare moment he gets! He plays rhythm and lead guitar in his part-time band... he's very good too Β

Excellent drawing, Ani.Β Such fine details in the hairs on the back of the finger and the reflection on the edge of the headstock. First class reflections on the metalwork. Β Superb uniform deep black background - how did you achieve this?Β What size is this?Β

Thank you! I'm honoured, your art is superb! The background was hard work, I wanted it to be very smooth but it ended up looking quite textured. I used an 8B koh-i-noor progresso graphite pencil for the background, pressing on hard, then blended with a paper tortillon and an eraser, I repeated this a few times and yet it still wasn't completely smooth! I did edit the photo to enhance contrast and make it look the best I could. I still haven't used your technique with the black background for photos yet - I'll be experimenting over the summer hols! The drawing is on A3 paper, it's 39cm x 24cm.

So much black and on an A3 size as well!Β It must not only have been hard work but boring too!Β
I have found layering 4B then 8B to be quite good for uniformity, but the blackest I have found is to layer 8B Mars Lumograph followed by 8B Faber Castell 9000.Β The Mars 8B is such hard work though with its heavy drag.Β Although one layer leaves many fine white holes on Bristol board, these miraculously fill with the Faber Castell and you get a much blacker colour than by other methods.Β You must put down the Mars first then the Faber Castell as the Mars will not write over the shiny Faber Castell.
Have you ever tried the Mars 8B?

I tried to learn to play guitar but I'm so rubbish with pain... my poor fingers! so I play the bodhran instead I think the chord is C7 ?? but, hey, my husband hasn't corrected me so I'm not too worried Β
