You know how Netflix made a Voltron series with the crew who worked on the Avatar series? They should do the same with Galaxy Rangers.

I like the redesigns! I just started checking the show out, and as a user of comicbookmovie.com's fanfic section, one of my next 'fancasts' will be for a reboot of the series a la the 2011 Thundercats. When I finish the thing, can I credit you for character designs?

It was a real project ( [link] ). I was hired to do designs for a potential reboot. It was shopped around by a production company, but last I heard, it'd been shelved.

Oh, that is just plain awesome!!! I'm a bit jealous of you now! (LOL) Seriously, it's not just cool that they're potentially remaking Galaxy Rangers, but it's also pretty cool how you were selected to make the designs. Man, I hope they do remake it...

I was like 3 when this was actually on, but I still remember the song! My babysitter used to watch it while she did her homework. The animation was surprisingly high quality for the 80s!
Your designs are awesome. I dunno if you're looking for any feedback, or if the network has certain guidelines they want you to follow, but as a bigtime sci-fi fan and part of the target audience for a potential reboot of this show, I have a couple suggestions.
One, the aliens are very humanoid in appearance, especially in the face. Since this is animation, where there's no extra cost that comes with making an actor look alien, it might be cool to really go for it with the alien designs. If you're basing them on bugs, particularly insects, really try to play up the "This Is A Different Life Form" angle. Maybe experiment with mandibles instead of mouths, or proboscises, or more than two eyes. Insects are cool! Check this guy out, he's a spiny leaf insect: [link]
And for the pretty ladies, a mother-of-pearl salamis butterfly: [link]
Two, the human main cast are, from what I gather, basically Space Sheriffs. So maybe give them an aspect to their wardrobes that links them, other than the badges. The same boots, standard-issue sidearms, something like that. Also, while your male characters have very practical clothing, the females have formfitting outfits with some seriously impractical aspects. I get that it's kind of industry standard, to pull in the adolescent male demographic, but young girls need strong role models too! Just look at the popularity of characters like Katara from Avatar. So maybe have the girls wear slightly more practical clothing on the job. Plus, that way, when the inevitable off-the-job character development episodes come around, the animators can dress them up and have the classic moment where the guy character realizes there's a body under that bulletproof (raygun proof?) vest!
But I've gone on long enough. Whatever ends up happening with this series, it was fun to see your designs, and to see you work in a slightly simpler style. Would you be amenable to posting more side-by-sides of pencils vs. finished colors? It's interesting to see the comparison between the more organic feel of the pencil outlines and the polished finished product.
P.S. If the series does get made, definitely keep the cowboy hats. Stetsons are cool!

Thanks for the feedback. Although at this point, the client's pretty set on the looks for the characters, costumes and aliens. I presented different options (uniforms, hats, etc.) and they went with what they liked best. I'm happy with the end result -- hopefully the show gets made and picked up by a network at some point so we can all see it in action.

I am a huge Galaxy Rangers fan. There were only two properties that I have ever wanted to buy the comic book rights too and they were Gatchaman and Galaxy Rangers.
The designs look pretty good too. Hope the show gets picked up and is done right.
