Description Gotta love Count Duckula extras - they were frequently as well thought-out and as funny as the central characters. Here a few pub sketches of some favourites of mine.

Left to right - Albert Penguin Jives, long-suffering butler to - Colonel Willioghby, his beastly walrus employer (oddly, the ONLY non-bird anthro character in the series both from 'Arctic Circles' ), Pierre et Gaston French criminals (and inspirations for Victor & Hugo - or HUGO and victor.... from five episodes) Denzil and Cuthbert, bumbling ducknappers from 'Ducknapped' ) and Rory McDuckula, the Count's Highland Uncle from 'The Ghost of McCastle McDuckula.' Just realised why that last gentleman was only in the one episode - he's so complex to draw!

All these folks are copyright to the geniui at Cosgrove Hall.

Anything on the Aussie who bought the clock and was being driven mad by the bad jokes?

Strewth mayte - Bill Platypus! Did a commission of him once that was never paid for I recall.

Sorry to hear.

...but if he was a platypus, then he was a non-bird anthro from Duckula too, so Col. Willioghby wasn't the only one...

Could've just been his surname, of course.

One thing that made me really love Duckula would be that even their guest stars and/or extras all have their own personality, and a lot more memorable than most guest stars/ extras from other cartoons.

Rory McDuckula, Gaston and Pierre are definitly my faves.

Isn't it strange that Colonel Willioghby is the only non-bird being on the entire show? I mean, Count Duckula is in the same world as Danger Mouse and Victor & Hugo, right?

I think cartoon 'universes' can occassionally cross-over, but in 'Count Duckula' humans basiclly evolved from bird, which made id doubly weird to have a humanised walrus character. But really, could he have been anything else as funny?

If I could recall, there was also a snake with a fork for a tongue in the series

Granitoons In reply to maneakiller [2008-07-23 17:33:04 +0000 UTC]

That was in Danger Mouse - episode 'All Fall Down' - all snakes have forked toungues, but his brother had a spooon!

Oooh, thank you! Y'know, I know this may sound rude, but I really like the way you draw ducks. Do you think you could draw one of my characters as a duck? Please? I'll draw you something in return!

I liked how the artist limited themselves to birds only, thus forcing them to be more creative. Made them very believable - like the restrictions Jones put on his Roadrunner shorts.

Gaston & Pierre spun off into Victor & Hugo which was really funny too, but sadly very ignored.

"You GHAASTLY little bounder! Where's my fish!?"

Frickin' love that episode, espicially when we see Albert's true character later in the episode. " 'ecky thump! It's a polar bear!"

Was really keen on Rory McDuckula too, mainly due to his voice reminding me of another good mate I have in the Highlands.

Overall, brilliant sketches of timeless one-shots (minus Pierre et Gaston). You know how to keep the British Humour alive at your end.

Isn't it quite strange that even if he's a vampire, he still needs money? He's also the typical stingy scotsmen.

*cuddles Victor and Hugo* Yes, Fremantle, release my boys onto DVD!!!

Anyway, AWESOME!!! You captured each character PERFECTLY! I esp. laughed at Col. Wiliby and Jives- never fails to crack me up! WHERE'S ME DINNER, EH? WHERE'S ME FISH?

Is Rory really that hard to draw? How so, out of curiousity?

I consider characters like the Crow Bros and Gaston and Peirre 'regular' extras, since they've appeared in several eps. As far as mainly one-time chars go, my faves are Jives and the Col. (I can never spell his name right!!), Cruel, and Don Diego! (For the most part, I seem drawn to characters voiced by Jimmy.)

What? No Soams and Potson? Btw, I am suprised you didn't include Shooshboomer, since you like him so much.

Granitoons In reply to Shychick [2008-06-28 11:35:34 +0000 UTC]

I Soammes, Postson and Mr. S are elsewhere in some sketches, along with The Phantom and Cruel (or Krool) . I'll no doubt do more. Rory is more long to draw than hard - the tartan, the tam-o-shanter (money bag) the spats etc. Takes a while!
