IF YOU POINT ME ANY MISTAKES IN LANGUAGE, I WILL BE REALLY GRATEFUL!

--------------------------------------------------------------------
Drawing Morrowind night sky gave me a lot of fun ^^
I also need a little advice from you, dear readers. How do characters look on this kind of background? Are they too bright? Maybe they're not shaded enought in comparison to the background? Or maybe they just look fine?
I want them to look as clear as possible, so I will be grateful for your help.

I've always kinda wondered how exactly health potions in games work, I mean, how do they heal someone like our fair elfin maid here. She's been just about sucked dry, it takes a bit more than [insert appropriate alchemy ingredients here] to replenish lost blood.  (I never got into alchemy in any of the Elder Scrolls games.)

I think it runs on the logic of "It's magic" but I do see your point, Regen potions make more sense in the regard that it is just speeding up the body's natural healing but most gamers don't have the patience t sit idle well their character tries to not die.

I agree with that sentiment, I've often downloaded more "hardcore" mods for Skyrim, but I get quite pissy when they change health potions to Over time rather than an instant heal, not like either are terribly helpful when skyrim can throw you the curveball of random NPCs who just magically hit like trucks even with the shittiest weapons and have health bars the size of a mammoth.

Yeah Nothing like walking into a town only to get greeted bu that wizard who wants to duel you and five minutes later half the town is on fire and you are being arrested because you've committed the horrid crime of decadently killing a chicken while fighting for you life.

See, first time I found him he 1 hit me with a single fireball spell. Skyrim, you so bork'd.  Made no sense cause I have a follower who spams fireballs like they're goin out of style and I hardly feel his, but they sure rip my enemies to pieces. So yeah, the possibly bug related randomness of Skyrim, it's a bit annoying. Especially when there's no functional way to tell if the Bandit Chief in steel plate armour and an daedric sword is going to do and take more damage than the Bandit Marauder in shitty patchwork, not even properly processed animal hides, with an iron mace. Or if that Draugr with a crappy decrepit bow and luckily has ebony arrows is gunna 1 shot you, or leave you to die by a plain lvl 1 draugr sneeze

Never had any problem with that lol, just asumed that anyone is a formidable threat and all I got was either indeed an opponent I had to look out for, or an easy kill an a sigh of reliev...well that was untill I got myself a crossbow

Magic yes, but I guess alchemy is the most scientificall "magic" of all there can be. I mean it depends on the world, but mostly it is said that some things have magical properties in them, and by combining them, by either matching the correct ones, or just mixing them up properly (again depends on the world) you can make a potion that could heal wounds for example. Now the way it is handled is mostly game mechanics. For example good luck opening inventory in Gothic or Gothic 2 while in fight and drink a potion. Of course its up to debate how what works, but those things I stated above could be glued as an overall alchemy description to most games or magical worlds, if those words didn't bother with something on their own. World with magical voices, fireballs casted at will, magical stones giving power because of the birthmark, OR NOT! BECAUSE SKYRIM (lol had to) I don't find it that hard to find out that there is a science/magic stuff that can make drinkable liquids that instantly heal you.

Also then you have the problem of actually portraing the problem. You see in game health should be called "hit points" meaning that those are points our character has, and wich decay while getting...hit! and how much of those hit it can survive. This also could go into the factor of potions at least back in the days. Its also a good example of how a high level mage can survive a slash with an axe, because hit points could be explained as some ways for him to survive the blow in his own way, not just getting the hit and brushing it off because why not. And then there's the health problem of this kind, like, you are cold, hungry or something, so your health should go down, correct? Because you're not feeling well, yet diseases for example don't lower your health...not all at least.

so it is an open never ending debate really >.> its 5 am in the morning and the night time is getting on my head

There is HitPoints in the TES games? Sure, it says "Health" in stead of HP, but there is a number of damage you can take, so it's really just the same, isn't it? Also, I always got the feeling that Mysticism in a way was a twisted for of science...

Perhaps you should have a lie down then     I dunno, I always felt RPGs were a bit to over the top for more casual players who didn't want to do math for every interaction from as simple as tripping over some pebbles, dodging incoming attacks, or simply getting the time of day from people. Skyrim is, truth be told, the first really casual TES game, sure it eats up hours of your day, but not because you're weighing whether you should up your constitution one more point before accepting this dangerous quest rather because you find yourself ignoring the fast travel system to admire the breath-taking scenery and not miss adding about a dozen fast travel locations between you and your goal, well that and the loading screens. And some people gripe about the time it takes to walk from say, Solitude to Riften, but go back to Daggerfall and walk from Daggerfall City to Wayrest why don't you, complain about skyrim being big will they.

hellwarior In reply to syk-Coletrane [2014-04-12 11:22:24 +0000 UTC]

kay, in case of tabletop games you have alot of stuff that can focus on "casual" stuff and no numbers involved, if you have a proper Dungeon master you can even go story telling or basic dice rolls with some minor stats.

In case of video games Oblivion was the first casual "tes" game because it was a casual roleplaying game if you even can call it that...and lets be nice and call it that.

And I think its a bad aproach to casual gaming, for example look at Neverwinter nights series (well nwn1 and nwn2) You have a "default" button that when you level up it gives you the "kinda best option" of skills, stats, spells and feats and if you do so though the entire game, you won't feel overwhelmed by numbers.

If "casual" means that it will destroy the game for other types of player, then you're doing it wrong x.x

I don't know much about drawing but I think characters seems good with background. Body in the fourth panel could be more shaded (?) If the light come from Secunda and Masser, maybe it's good for Valen and Neila.
Whatewer, again a nice page. You made a good work with hair of characters x)
