Description My best Icthyosaur fossil, collected from the beach between Lyme Regis and Charmouth, Dorset, England after a strong tide had scoured the Lias shelves of sand.
Removed in a hurry due to incoming tides, it all came up but in pieces. Acid prepared to remove the coating of concretion and reassembled. The neck seems to have seperated from the body post-mortem and rolled slightly away along with the skull, which has been squashed flat.
Some skin staining and impression seems to be preserved between the ribs.

Believe me, I know it.

That's a beautiful fossil, a lot of detail in that skull. Some of the fossils from Charmouth are really impressive. Although oddly enough those tiny pyritised ammonites are probably my favourite. ^_^
