Description Known by several other names among the galactic races, these heavily-plated behemoths can somehow survive without an atmosphere of any kind and will voraciously consume both organic and inorganic matter (such as asteroids, space debris, stray comets and crewed spaceships) to fuel the metabolic processes that allow them flight in the void of space. Extremely resilient and able to withstand tremendous levels of heat and pressure, they are even known to land on nearby planets, causing tremendous damage on the geography and native lifeforms -if there's any. The build up of rare metals in their mostly inorganic bodies leads them to be ocassionally hunted, a potentially lethal task that requires an abundance of heavy weaponry and even more bravery.

The Jormungand appear to be native of the galactic quadrant that includes Vlentis, but have managed to spread beyond its borders due to captured specimens breaking free in the past, posing an ever-present threat to commercial routes and miner sectors. This fact, as well as the complete lack of evolutionary traces in their biology has brought the theory that these creatures might be artificial in origin, perhaps even created by the same so-called progenitors of the known humanoid races

I have mixed opinions on this.

On one hand, the idea of life forms living and thriving in the vacuum of space is one I am quite fond of. Also I do quite like the design of your creature here.
Setting wise, it is an interesting thought that the Alpha could have made more things other than just all the non-Earth humanoids, and it does raise interesting questions on why the Jormungand were made.

On the other hand, the idea that they should pose "ever-present threat to commercial routes and miner sectors" is one I'm quite critical. Considering the vastness of space, you could have literally trillions of Jormungand in that one galactic quadrant alone, spread out very widely, and they would still only occupy such a miniscule portion of that space that space craft could navigate perfectly safely without coming even remotely near any of the beasts.
The whole thing about space being somewhere one can just happen to bump into stuff is one aspect of sci-fi that somewhat irritates me, as it appears to really significantly underestimate just how vast space is.

Still the fear of running into one would be very present in the minds of those crossing space, even if it never happens in the entire trip
