Description Acrylic on Paper
A4
November, 2014

Description: A little rain can't hurt her now. Not anymore. The concept is self-descriptive. This is so gloomy and dark that I don't think I should redescribe it in words.

Experience: I don't choose such dark and gloomy themes normally. But it is painted to match Rising-Artists 's November contest "A little drop of rain won't hurt me now". By any means, that sentence does not sound anything jolly to me other than dark and gloomy.

I absolutely love the play on color in this image, and the attitude that it conveys. It's heartbreaking, honestly. I have to admit I have similar feelings regarding the prompt given. You've managed to really make a sense of separation between the woman and the figures in the distance, and I can only imagine what sort of trouble she went through. Was her significant other cheating? Was she left hanging by a date who didn't show? Was it something even darker that I'm not going to mention on this Critique? I really have to give it to you for the fact that you left it open-ended so that the viewer could relate to it in their own way.

I love the use of form in this as well, and how you interpreted her figure. You really made her look like her entire facade had been shaken and crumbled. Her hair is down and tangled, her dress is falling to one side, her shoulders are slumped and she's walking heavily on the wet ground. I really have to commend you on the simplistic background as well, it really brings our focus to the woman, and the vertical alignment really gives us that feeling of distance between her and the people in front of her walking.

There's a number of reasons that she could be in a condition such of that, but none of them are favorable. Overall you did an excellent job with this piece. It's not an original idea, but I really do enjoy how you interpreted the feelings involved, and it truly shows in your artpiece.

Thank you for your valuable critique and time. I appreciate it.
Yes, the background was my favourite part - I wanted to make it dissolving, slowly fading and going further as it is in the woman's eyes.
And as you said, the viewer can interpret their own which I would like very much but I don't think heartbreak can match that dark and heart-rending state which she has just been through.

And you are right - it can't be called an entirely original idea - but after a theme is declared, we have very little chance to put forth an original idea - we can just interpret it.

By the way, I uploaded a better quality of the painting now.
And thank you again very much.

This is beautiful I love how even the lampposts in the background look wet and shaky

That calves look really muscular. What if she was one of those tingle tangle boys?

No. Mistake in proportion drawing. The anatomy book I was following, had references of mascular calves. Also if you notice, the knees should be higher, waist lower and the arms healthier.

Haha yeah that could be a problem too.
I did this:fav.me/d75bfrd at the time I was followed by this wooden study model.
Nevertheless I think those guys can do a good job for proportions
