Another awesome shot. Bit of criticism though: the rose looks a bit fake... as if it had been cropped and pasted onto it. I know there's a conceptual reason behind it, but it kinda takes me out of the picture.

I know what you mean. When I was setting this up, I felt like that space was too empty. I had brought a rose prop with me in case something like that happened, so I put it there. I like the shot better with the rose than without, but I know what you mean. I should have used something else that made more sense in context. Hmm...

Oh, no... I kinda like the fact that the rose is like that kind word in winter or whatever. It's not that it doesn't make logical sense, it's just that visually it looks fake. Maybe because of the post-processing of the photograph it just ended up looking off. Perhaps if you'd shone a light on it so there's a cast shadow.

That could be too. It was shot at from the bottom of a hill, so I had to really plant it in place to keep it from sliding down. It was nearly flush with the snow, so very few shadows. I didn't really touch the flower in post, so I can't think of anything else. A light would have been a good idea. I need to use my speedlite more.

Thanks so much. Lately I've been trying to bring at least one prop with me to a shoot and then work it in if it fits.

i love this shot. I VERY rarely see winter photography done in a summer pallate of colors and after seeing this i think that more people should! the blue rose is wonderfully fairy tale like, as are the red of the rocks. i adore it!

Thanks for the lovely critique. I too find it colorful and decorative in a way I rarely see with snow scenes.

Thanks again!

It was fun to do something a bit more conceptual than usual.

Thanks. It was a bit unusual for me to carry props with me for shots like this, but I rather like the results in this case.
