This is (I think) the first picture I've ever tried without using lineart! I found a great website called Ctrl+Paint which is a site where a professional artist has made dozens of videos on how to better your art skills! It's beautiful, especially to someone like me who is completely self-taught and interested in getting good enough to make art my living. My challenges in this picture were practicing perspective, use of texture, speed of creation, and lack of lineart. I'm quite pleased with the final product!
No one can get better without constructive criticism, so I hope some of you may take the time to leave thoughtful critiques! It is very much appreciated!

First off, you did a fantastic job on this piece. I love the whole subject, the subject seems to be in such a playful/loveable/relaxed state that you can feel your own mood brighten right away. The first thing to stand out to me was this blurry aspect to the whole piece, but I reasoned that blur added to the dream-like aspect to the whole piece. Perhaps the only oddball thing that stood out to me was the tree roots, something about them is lacking, perhaps the transition from root to ground is slightly off, but this hardly detracts too much from the overall impact of the whole piece. You can tell there is a story there, and it sparks my imagination to realize what it may be. Great Job!

Thank you for such a thoughtful critique! Just a quick question for ya: when you say the tree roots look off, are you thinking more the construction of the tree roots themselves, or that the color between the roots and the ground are too similar? I'd love to hear your input! Thank you!

I think it is more the construction. They seem too short and tall for the size of the tree, but then again could be some type of tree I have never seen, it being in your mind and creativity, that's what is great about art, you really can't be wrong.
