With the modernization of the confederate army in 2773, and the war with the Varnim Pact raging, the Confederates began toying with different prototype armors. Corporations, eager to get points with the corrupt senate started submitting their own armor designs. The Easwich Consortium submitted the m-73 variant to the military.
Though none of the consortium are military manufacturers, they funded the upgrade of the armor. Their money would continue to fund the armor, privately to 'loan' to the confederate military.
With the corporate shadow war int he confederate territory raging, anything a corporation can do to secure a safe position from aggressive attacks by others is worth it. BarWorks had already been hiring shadow mercenaries to raid it's competitors, but now it was embedding itself in the military.
