Description SAILORMOON © NAOKO TAKEUCHI

I never thought I would ever make a SailorMoon fanart, since I don’t really like that series – it’s childish, pointless and incredibly sexist. Fortunately, I don’t remember too many things about that series so far, but I read “Sailor V” and I swear I regretted every euro spent on it I had never read so many stupid sentences about what being a girl is or what girls supposedly must like and do and feel and… everything!
But this drawing is not about SailorMoon but about Usagi Tsukino, its main character. Its main and forgotten character.

Because Usagi Tsukino (literally ”white rabbit of the moon” as the title of the drawing reads, beyond the horrible names she’s been given, like Bunny or even Sabrina) is the one and only Sailor Moon, the true heart of the whole story. However, since I joined DA I’ve met tones of fans of SailorMoon and I’ve realized most of those fans have two main crushes:
Designing the most glaring senshi fuku ever. Never-ending ribbons, sparkling brooches, impossible skirts... There’s supposed to be a girl behind all those fetish items, but who cares? Usagi is not her only victim, but still 90% of the Usagi drawings I’ve seen are focused on her clothes. But she’s supposed to be a girl, a person, with feelings and dreams. Maybe she only has two neurons immersed in a love-hate relationship and her only dreams are eating a lot and playing videogames, but it doesn’t mean she’s just an empty doll.
Imagining the most pointless related story/character. Sisters, twins, daughters, granddaughters, grandmothers, great-grandmothers... If we took into account each and every SailorMoon OC, Usagi would have the most extensive family in the story of manga and anime, and most of them would have probably been born by parthenogenesis. And if we take ALL the OCs, then there’s a Sailor Senshi for absolutely everything. The idea of designing your own Sailor or turn yourself into a Sailor is attractive, I know, but is it really necessary to call her “character”? Most of those “characters” are nothing but a cute doll with a beautiful dress

OK, end of the rant
Those were my reasons to draw Usagi, just Usagi, the 14 years old girl who suddenly finds herself immersed in the umpteenth battle between Good and Evil, her life as a normal student collapsed as she’s forced to become a warrior. The most eye-catching detail of this drawing was supposed to be her hair, so I made her pearl-like dress as simple as possible; the only concessions made were the bow and the open brooch since they are an important part of her style in the series. Drawing her two foreshortened forearms was difficult enough, so I’m not shading this time; I think the drawing looks well enough even without shadows. I hope you like it ^_^

This one is very nice and beautiful, not sure if this one will also go in the princess folder but, regardless, great picture. I do see your point in what you said but I will not comment on that here, I like msn better for this kind of stuff XD

Still, great work with her, the look on her face is adorable and you did a great job with her hands <3

Thank you very much, your words make me feel SO flattered
And it's been so nice from you to drop by to comment and fave... Thanks ^_^

And no, this is not one of those 'Princesses project drawings' - actually, I've been working on Serenity's tribute this evening; it is a pair of matching drawings: 'Moon Phases' and 'Full Moon' (I'm working on the first one yet), and maybe a third one... I'll explain the whole project in the future.

Every drawing of the String will have a link to the Princesses folder, so you will know if it is a tribute just because of my author's comments. Thank you very much for your interest, anyway - I'm glad you came around ^_^

Ah ok ok then I will be on the lookout for it and I wish you luck with those 2 drawings and the project itself :3

Oh, ok, well thank you for the information <3

By the way, you seem to be a great SM fan and to like this drawing a lot, so I would like you to know that there's a Wallpaper Pack of this drawing. I worked a lot on it, but no one has downloaded it yet If you have any interest, you can find it here: [link] Thanks ^_^

Thanks! ^_^

Not really, her hair was not too difficult since I did exactly the same as I did in "Sweet Innoncence", but with even less details. Her buns were the problem; it was more difficult of what I expected the to be to be drawn in a 3/4 perspective I had to draw the silhouette on a different paper and trace it twice after choosing carefully the place where I wanted them to be

Beautifully said as well as drawn. Your artwork I think hits your mark perfectly, it really shows the soul of a child, and I don't know if it was intentional or not, but I think it's really powerful how the page is lighter on the left side than on the right, you can literally see her sort of caught in the middle of this war, or being suddenly called by the light, anyway you look at it, it's just lovely and does not leave one wanting for any sparkles.

Thank you very much, this is one of the kindest comments I've ever received, seriously

About the lighter and the darker side... it was not intentional at all; actually, this is not a scan but a photography My scanner (the wonderful one, remember?) started to fail as a printer and right now I have a horrible one who literally eats the colours, so I took a photo I thought it didn't look well, but with you explanation about God and Evil it looks far better now

"...it's just lovely and does not leave one wanting for any sparkles." Wait, does this mean you READ all my rant? Oh, dear Thank you

Aww, your poor scanner! Well I think it worked out for the best with this piece, it gives it extra personality. And I always read people's artist comments in their entirety, I consider it part of the artwork. ^_^

Well, then I should thank for spend so many time reading my comments - they've been really long lately I agree, you can learn many things about the piece and its author by reading these comments ^_^
I told my mother about the scanners trouble, and it's possible we can connect the cool one on the old computer so I can scan with it, but it's not sure since maybe it doesn't work as a scanner anymore Anyway, I wasn't going to upload many things from know on, so it's not a big point ^^
