2H, F, HB and 6B graphite pencil on Canson drawing paper. Original size 5" x 7".

Reference was a photo I took at the local Botanic Gardens (had such a great time with the camera there!).

This piece was challenging in many ways (not least of which was finding the time to work on it after having a baby). I don't usually draw plants or ceramic pots or have to render accurately the faint penumbra on a cast shadow. And I had to alter the contrast between darks and lights from the original photo in various places in order to have the subject and background well-delineated from each other. So it was a nice little learning piece. Now I get to try something new!
