Those "health gauge lines", I've been pondering them.
If I recall correctly, Shinkawa never added a suitable tech-babble with them, so... Here comes my imagination!
I've figured them to be a sort of cooling/exhaust system for the Metatron-energy. Being open on the outer surface, they work to release excess heat the extremely powerful Metatron-powered reactor causes.
Also, they work to support and balance the Metatron-reactions of OF's main systems. Like shield, for instance. It is projected from the shoulder (in Jehuty's case) and then the extreme distortion is kept stable with the help of smaller emitters around the body.
"Metatron-canvas", as I call them. (had to think of some name for them.)

Nerd? No. 'Metatron-canvas'... sounds a lot better than 'health gauge lines'. That was only because they sort of glow green, yellow or red depending on the health of the Frame (or that weird... orangy-colour due to a resonance reaction). But that's a very interesting detailed theory. Wouldn't know how to compliment you without sounding stupid, so... you're imagination's strong.
