Can this be used on Windows 10? And if so, how?

glange65 In reply to PKMNNatural [2016-09-06 10:35:20 +0000 UTC]

That depends...

I'm not that familiar with Windows 10, as I have some client specific software that doesn't support anything beyond Windows 7.Β
Generally, the best (and most complete) way toΒ  customize Windows desktop icons is by using a third-party launching application, such as RocketDock or WinLaunch, or the combination widget/launcher Rainmeter.Β  Any software or app that can use PNG files can use these. For Windows 10 I would guess that there are some customizing apps for making start tiles; just make sure any app you try can use PNG files.

Typically Windows uses icons in a special format; with the extension ICO.Β  There are several applications and online web apps that can convert PNGs to ICO.Β  An ICO file contains the same icon in several different pixel sizes...usually 16, 24, 32, 48, 64, 128, 256, and 512, or some combination of these.

For my PC, I use ICO files, but mine are made at different sizes because I've got Windows set to display larger than normal.Β  They would look fuzzy on another computer.Β  It would take me many hours of work to resize and adjust all the icons sizes and convert them to ICOs for others to use

Hope that helps a little.

I'll respond to all your comments here.

Thank you, glad you like them.

Unfortunately I can't share my resources or PSD files, two reasons...
1.Β  I generally don't share my source material, as I don't allow derivatives of my work by others as I use these in my professional portfolio and may have commercial or licensing uses for them in the future.Β  I've been burned too many times to allow it, sorry.
2.Β  I couldn't give you the PSD files at any rate, as there are none.Β  I don't work in Photoshop, but do all my creative work in Illustrator

Have a good weekend

Thank you very much.Β  I don't know much about Apple (correct?) so I'm not familiar with ISO.Β  Sorry, wish I could be of more help

Beyond Firefox, Office, Adobe CS5, and a few other basics.. I don't use much else.

Any suggestions?

I hadn't realized the similarities until you mentioned, and wasn't my intent but I like their style too. Thanks!

It's interesting...Microsoft and Google fight like children, but their UI and design philosophies are extremely similar.

Hah,yep. Google's have shadow/shades & logo brand color schemes, which I like.

I think these Freeform icons are better than metro ones.
And I don't either like the existence of metro, with its sharp corners..or tile forms.

So the office logo is just for show off right since Microsoft office doeant have a start panel with all the apps like its open source counterparts. Its only to be used as a folder icon isn it ?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

glange65 In reply to StefaNafetS [2013-05-19 12:25:43 +0000 UTC]

You can use or not use it anyway you want.

Personally, I use it for a task bar folder or start menu folder containing the Office apps. Also use for special doc folders and occassionally on a mobile device to denote doc folders.

Kind of you to say. So far it's just been a hobby. Been trying to switch careers, but getting ANY job has been tough.

dAKirby309 In reply to glange65 [2013-05-20 20:18:01 +0000 UTC]

Yea, graphic design is a hobby for me for now. But due to good paying clients and lots of attention on my Metro UI/Uinvert icon sets, I feel inspired to make that my profession when I get out of school, God willing.

But yea, it's tough to pretty much get any job in the US now...
