She's showing off too obvious imo. No one would read a book like that, in such a pose. Such things appear more often in fashion portraits so no one's to blame, I just think this picture would work out better if Ruby looked less aware of the camera - perhaps by actually reading?

gorgeous lighting and I love the lushness of all of the textures in this portrait.
One thing that bothers me: The window throws off the shot a little in my mind. It just kind of makes the picture a little more.. commonplace. I would love to see this sans-window with more of a... secluded tower room feel.

I adore this, if it weren't for the lamp in the background, I'd have thought this was a full period piece. I disagree with Zicue, though it is a good argument. I do not think the background is too cluttered. Your eyes is drawn straight to your lovely model and the breath-taking gown.
