Honestly, this is the first critique I've ever done, so I'm going to try my best:
First of all, Sephiroth is one of my most favorite characters from all the FF series, and he's known to show how evil can be by just looking at his face. You've portrayed that characteristic trait of Seph in an original manner- since he usually tends to smile, you put a softer smile than usual, and it looks pretty badass. Plus, the realism makes it look more sexy than he already is, hahahaha~
You have done a good job with the face proportions and his neck / chest as well. Maybe I find the nose a bit squared, but it's just my perception. The shadows are well placed, giving it the kind of realistic portraits I like (as well as several people does). Plus, the lighting added on his hair suits him perfectly. Since you said you've done this with charcoal, I congrat you since it's a hard medium to work with (Honestly I find it difficult to use and I've only done that a few times, maybe when it was young, but still, you have taken it to the master level)
There's just a little problem I found, and it's the large shadow you added behind his head. I don't know, but I feel like it doesn't really suit. It could be better if you left his clothing as the only black thing (I don't know if I have explained myself well), then the drawing would be 100% perfect. But I repeat, it's only my opinion and you're free to disagree if you want to.
Neverthless to say, you've done an excellent drawing with Sephiroth right here! Realism is not easy (and I really know that), but this... this drawing makes it look like it's possible to draw him ;-; Good job!

ok so this is really nice.
I have several nitpick suggestionsΒ
the eyes could have been lowerd just a tiny bit Β
the eyebrows are great,
so is the eye shape
I am having a slightly difficult time telling where your light source is to be.
I would have darkened the darker shadows and lighted the lightest,
do not be afraid of stark contrast in light
(for example you did a good job of this in the neck and chest)Β
I am a bit confused about the dark behind his head
(my mind keeps trying to tell me its part of the hair)
maybe round it off a bitΒ
it might look cool to slightly conect the coat color and the background.
this looks really nice all together.

Thanks for the suggestions! I think my value range is the maximum given the medium (the lightest light is the white of the paper, and the darkest is several layers of charcoal); it might be my photography skill that lacking lol. I see how the background behind his hair can be a bit confusing. Thank you again! XD

Overall, this charcoal drawing turned out pretty well.
Β
You definitely portrayed his likeness in a way that I can instantly recognize him (even though I have yet to play FF7). Maybe it's because you drew his hair, facial features and expression, and eyes in a manner that greatly reflects the (spirit of the) original character design.
Β
For the rendering aspect, you also did well. The hair looks pretty sleek and shiny. The facial and neck features definitely pop out. Speaking of the neck area, I think the form of the features need to be fleshed out a bit more. For some reason, the neck area appears a bit unfinished. The cast shadow (from the chin area) on the neck can be made a bit darker. There are also parts of the hair that blend in a bit too much with the skin (also near the neck area). Maybe a few fine lines will help defined the hair strands on that area a bit more.
Β
As for line work, I noticed you used the finest and most detailed lines for the facial features to help separate the face from the neck and hair. That's a nice touch.
Β
On a side note, I wonder how big the original drawing is. Just from looking at the paper's texture, I'll have to say it is probably the size of an 8.5 x 11 paper. If that's the case, then more props to you for creating such a pretty clean and detailed drawing using charcoal. Speaking of charcoal, did you use charcoal sticks, pencils, or something else? Nevertheless, this drawing speaks volumes about your craftsmanship with the medium.

This is stunning!
The lines are so clean, and the texture and the details are amazing! The facial features are done so well, and I absolutely LOVE the eyes! They are each shaped perfectly, along with the nose and lips, and the cat-like eye feature is great too!
All in all, this is a splendid piece of work! Be proud of yourself!
Great job!

OkkkAAAAy. You've officially outdone yourself here. Maybe it's the charcoal paper and its texture, maybe it's your general brilliance, but this is...Quite a lvl up!

Gosh darn it. I haven't worked widely with charcoal but it's amazing what you've done. It looks absolutely incredible.
