This picture illustrates a passage of ‘The 130 days’ [link] , a beautiful fanfiction written by Nindy, set during the time Vegeta spent at Capsule Corporation while waiting for the Namek spheres to reactivate (you may refer to episode 107 of Dragon Ball Z if you want to refresh your memory about that period ).

Nindy asked me to depict a scene where the saiyan sits outside the spaceship, watching the stars. Bulma joined him, and they just sit together.

As she wrote me, she wished for “Vegeta and Bulma's sides to brush, without them intentionally touching each other - but just sitting together, something peaceful - when it's quiet and there's no talking, and it's just fine that way. Maybe Vegeta even looking a little lost, gazing up at the stars where he might still see stars belonging to his old planet that's long gone - but even though he'd never admit to it, it's alright because Bulma's there.”
I think her words are a very fitting description to what’s going on here.

I won’t tell you what happens next, nor what happened before in her story; I’ll just make a few considerations about this image itself.

I think the fact Bulma and Vegeta are sitting side by side, with nothing but a nearly imperceptible contact between their bodies, tells a lot about a deeper connection between them.

This picture can be read as a sort of reinterpretation of the classical scene of the “two lovers watching the stars” in a way that fits these two characters a lot, I think: they’re simply together, without kissing, hugging, whispering tender words or something – just near, with no need of speech nor touch. And since a long conversation doesn’t seem to be something you can expect from someone like Vegeta, I think this is a very delicate and beautiful way to portray them sharing some kind of ‘romantic’ moment as it may be for them.
No romantic attitude in a traditional way, but still something very intense they’re possibly starting to be aware of too.

So, well, I find it quite representative of their relationship – and you can imagine how much I enjoyed working on this request, too.

Furthermore, I especially appreciate the idea of Vegeta looking above, as if he were constantly reaching out for something higher. It can be considered a sort of metaphor of his ambition.

Possibly you’ve noticed that anchor-shaped galaxy on the upper left corner of the picture: as you can read in Nindy’s story, it is a galaxy belonging to planet Vegeta - and a reference to the symbol of saiyan race, too.

Please let me know your impressions about this piece if you wish and have some time: they always mean a lot to me!

As usual, I hope you enjoy this picture!

omg, that's way too magical !!! suych a wonderful piece of art, you really did amazingly well ! I think it's one of the best works of yours
yeah, nothing romantic, but I can feel how comfortable they are arounf themselves ! that's what is important, and I guess this is what make a couple last besides, it suits them very well ! I was thinkg, that they might be simply looking at the stars or looking for a star ! or a planet since Vegeta came from there and Bulma is a scientist, I;m sure they both are very interested in stars

As always, your comments made my day, Cherry!
I'm deeply thankful for how insightfully you look at my pictures and for the time you take to share your thought about them with me.
I must admit I was lucky in this case, because this picture is a commission I did for , and illustrates a fanfiction of hers. Fortunately, her story tells of a moment about this couple I personally enjoy a lot, because it expresses their feelings just like I like stories about them to do. There's nothing all sentimental; just the basis of a lasting relationship as you yourself said. Plus, you're right: both Bulma and Vegeta must share a common interest for stars, considering their past life/profession.

I really gotta say this now: I´m addicted to ur pictures!!!
I like the way you portrait these two, without the "forever together/I can´t live without you" stuff many do... which can be cool as well, but your interpretations are just more realistic and probably because of that even more intense!
I also love the freedom you give us on your pics! You leave it up to us what we make of it, sth I really worship!
I almost love your explanations underneath your pics as much as the pics themselves! They show that u really think about your work!
Right, enough of the praising, I think I´ve made my point ^^!
Long story short: Great job and keep up the good work!

What to say... your comment really made my day!!! Thanks so much, really!
I deeply appreciate every single words; not only for your appreciation, but because you pointed out most of the main goals I aim at, while drawing my pictures. I always try to avoid getting all sentimental about these couple; not because I think they never shared tender moments together, but because I personally find it more intriguing to let people imagine what might have been happened between them.
It's beautiful to receive comments that, from time to time, show that someone shares my opinion about this and enjoys my work.
I full-heartedly thank you for your support and your lovely words; you can't imagine how much they mean to me.

Thank you very much, really. I try to explore some aspects of these characters that fit them as much as possible, and I'm very happy you enjoyed how I did it here. Well, of course the depicted moment is taken from 's fanfiction I illustrated here, but it really met my taste a lot, since it's a nice moment between them, without it being too romantic or sloppy.

Thanks for the explanation behind this piece. I read "130 days" awhile back and your artwork captures the mood of the star-gazing scene perfectly. While I particularly like the coloring of the over all piece, and the night sky (I especially like the addition of the "anchor" constellation), Vegeta's head size is a tad out of proportion. In terms of perspective, Bulma should be bigger because she in the forefront and you have her posed nicely, but Vegeta's head is the same size as her's while his body is smaller. It's a minor critique, considering all of the pluses here. You've done a fine job.

Many thanks for sharing. I'm sure Nindy Kyoko Shinretzu was pleased with this interpretation of her wonderful story.

I always appreciate critique when it's constructive, and since yours definitely is, I cannot but thank you for that.
I see what you mean: perspective was a bit tricky on this piece, and it took me a lot of time to choose the final dimensions of each character. In my "defence", I can say I willingly made Vegeta's body a little smaller than his head (if compared to Bulma's proportions), to make clear he's shorter than her, and I chose to make his head only slightly smaller than Bulma's one, not to excessively focus on her. But looking carefully at the picture, I understand what you mean, and maybe I should have changed his head a bit more than I did. What to say... while doing it, it looked right to my eyes... Thanks for making me notice it, I'll take it clearly in mind next time.

I'm very glad you liked this image as a whole, and especially if you find I expressed well the mood of the story. Since this was a commission, I think that one was one of the most important points to care for, and I'm really glad if you appreciate my version of that scene from "The 130 Days". And I'm also happy you found my description useful; I think the right presentation of a piece makes a big difference in how the viewer watches and appreciates it.

Thanks a lot again for the attention you put in looking at my work, and for your useful advice.

this is gorgeous! the colors you used are amazing. I especially love how the glow from the moon bounces off their features. Their postures are very natural and relaxed looking (and I love the detail to their clothing!) I think my favorite part of this picture would be the sense of atmosphere that you've created. Aside from the sky (which has a great cloudy texture) the shapes in the background really give a great sense of where they are!

Okay...if I'd to just put one single word, to describe my impressions, it would be..."uaus"

Honestly, I really was shocked in a very positiv way, when I returned to DA and saw your new stuff. You really, really improved yourself very much. I'm so excited!!!

As I looked the first time on thins one, I was trapped from the beginning by it´s strong expressiveness. Just couldn't look away Ö_Ö

I really love it! Everything 'bout it. The scene itself, the composition, the range of colors and the shading. I love strong shadows and light effects. You did a very beautiful job her. Gorgeous. :3

I'm fascinated by the colors you choose, they working great together and making this moment even more intense.

Btw. I'd love to say something more 'bout this scene, but actually you did allready wrote everything I'd said. It's true, also, if nothing big seems to happen here in this moment, it tells a lot 'bout their (later) relationship. If you can sit around with someone without any talking, touching or anything else without feeling uneasy, you really need to have some kind of deep conection to each other. If you think about this early point of time in their relationship, it shows much of there affection and why they'd become a couple. I can`t imagine a better way to caupture this as you did here :3

I like your idea of Vegeta "reaching" out for something higher, even if I had seen it more like his feeling of being lost and that he sees his past in the sky. It must be very hard to see the light from your home galaxy, your planet, knowing, that it´s not there anymore...even if you can still see it (just....not with the naked eye of course....er...does it make sence, what I'm talking about? @__@).

And thanks for mentioning the stargroup building the saiyan symbol. I'm pretty sure, that I'd missed it else. But I love this idea and it would have been a pitty to not see this little detail.

The sky looks a little like it´s done with watercolors. That´s nice And I like the colored lines, this makes it so much smoother and better fitting with the rest. I really like colored lines...unfortunately I don´t really know, how to do this v_v (Shame on me)

Oh, and you did great job at their anatomy and the way you draw their positons. Don't ask why, but I realy like the way you did Vegetas strait leg an foot. It just looks great to me, but I can't really explain why. Same for the details on his armor. Or the folds.

I guess, that you must have had a lot of fun doing this, because it´s visible. I guess, that´s why it´s a pleasure to look at it

Hope I didn't forget something important - awesome work!

Hi my dear!!!! aww thanks so much for your comment, it's always a pleasure to receive your support!!
I'm really glad you expressed your appreciation on those technical aspects; I think they're really important, especially in a picture requested by someone else. So I payed much attention to the light effects, and I'm sooo happy you like them! Vegeta's hair is quite hard to do, as it's basically shaded on black tones and you must pay attention to make them look different, but not too contrasting -otherwise, he'd look a bit punky! The sky was a bit easier to do, as it's basically a long sequence of photomanipulations on various photos I made - the hardest part in it was to match the general color with the rest of the picture.

I'm absolutely delighted if you enjoyed this pic, and I THANK YOU so much again for your always lovely encouragement!!!

Hehe, you're too kind! you're right, some times I also find it very tiring to finish a piece (especially if it's 4 in the morning and you've studied all day long lol! )! But I must admit I always had much fun drawing my pictures till now, so I resist the temptation to give up and go to sleep! The worst thing to me is the fact I can't work continuously on a picture for, I dunno, 5 days... It's something quite impossible as there's much to do in 'real life' (not that I mind it ), but from a merely 'creative' point of view, it would be much more practical to have a picture finished after a normal amount of time rather than after months. ^^ Oh well, that's what life is all about.

I thank SO SO SO much my dear! Your words always put me in a good mood!

I know the feeling. I'd rather get a picture finished on the same day I start it whilst I still have the vibe and inspiration. If I leave it and come back to it, the mood's gone or I don't feel as enthusiastic about finishing it. The creativity isn't there after a break

Aww you're more than welcome I'm glad they put you in a good mood, that made me smile
