Okie dokie so since I haven't seen one out there yet, I thought I'd help the fandom a little...Since the fandom also hasn't quite discovered this sketch by Steve Purcell: [link]
But yeah, with the onslaught of NOIR SAM FANART that's arising, I figured people needed a little boost...And there's the fact that Cheri demands it. I also don't draw enough Sam yet I love him to death...Zombification...whatever.

Overall, Sam is one of these "stocky built" cartoon characters. You gotta remember that when drawing him. Nothing about Sam is skinny, sorry you animu fags.

Your tutorials helped quite a bit. In my experience in drawing Sam, it is pretty tricky to get the head and body structure down, mostly the head since I'm not as used to drawing those head shapes. Thanks.

Sam's pretty hard to draw, but Max is even HARDER!!!

Max? Noooooo, he's only 3 heads tall, and has few features : p he's way easier to draw

This is really quite helpful since Sam's such a pain in the ass to draw.

Thanks for this! It's a big help, I've been struggling to draw Sam's strange shaped head for awhile now, hopefully this will take me a step in the right direction.

This is now in the HD folder where I keep my Sam references. I find the tip about his muzzle aligning with the top of the base circle for his head especially helpful.

I'm also part of the fandom who's somehow missed seeing that Steve Purcell sketch, so thanks bunches for linking to that as well!

Aaaah that makes me a happy KiKi

I've found so many missed sketches and things Steve has done...I don't know why more of the fandom hasn't seen them!

Yay!

Hmm ... do you know if some of those sketches come from The Age of S&M and The Effigy Mound, by any chance? I'm thinking their lack of availability means certain sketches have had a tough time surfacing on the internet. On the other hand, I can't remember the last time someone posted one of the reference pages from the cartoon series, even though those are readily available through the DVDs. Maybe because -- at least on the TTG forums -- people don't feel it's kosher to post those scans or PDFs there? It's curious, in any case ...

I'm thinking most of them come from Steve's sketchbook...that's out of print. I was going to buy it but nooo.

I got into Sam & Max after the sketchbooks were out-of-print and not selling for beaucoup bucks on eBay, so yeah. I managed to get a hold of The Effigy Mound eventually, but oh god it cost me. (And I'm paranoid about scanning anything from it because I'm afraid I'll be dumb and bend it horribly out of shape or break the spine or something. D: )

If I could work up the courage to open the book past four inches, definitely!

Seriously though, I'll give this a shot (erm, no pun intended) with my regular camera when I figure out a way to hold the book open, not damage it, and take decent pictures at the same time. I'm getting some ideas already ...
