The Hell Valley Sky Trees of Shiver burn Galaxy. in the game, all you can see are the three species of sky trees, two with arms, one with just a head...well those three were taking a rest from their job and were fascinated by the bright light of the canyon below.the sky trees rely upon the green neon mushrooms for both food and light. living in Beyond hell valley, there isn't much light up on the permanent glaciers. the green mushrooms are able to grow thanks to these sky trees the glowing bioluminescence on the mushrooms are used as lights for the sky trees villages, making them an eco-friendly race.
when the harvest comes around, they sometimes grow more then what they need. So instead of throwing the rest or storing it, they fly off in their shipping saucer and drop it off on fellow planets. if they just leave it alone in storage, the bioluminescence would were off, making them useless.

i heard that they are based of a kind of japanese tree spirit called a kodama

My theory was that those 3 figures were the supreme beings of the universe.

Also the reason why they are watching Mario is because they know Bowser is threatening their existence and Mario is essentially the "Chosen one" sent to stop him.
