Description
This is a chocolate sponge cake I made to help raise money for the local school back in 2010.As a Mum of 5, i think it is really important to support the local schools and help out wherever I can.....which is only really bake sales......so what better time than easter to cook goodies...

I have to say, this is a very stylish, rather classy, Easter cake. How long did the intricate piping on the middle layer take you? It looks very careful and steady

It took about an hour, mainly because I mixed the icing up too thick....again! I will learn my lesson one of these days...

I've found I tend to err on the side of being too thick too. Just scared that it might run too much.

.....I don't even think about diets the beginning of the year with Christmas and Easter. I usually panic when the sun comes out, and my summer clothers are a bit on the snug side....

whoa if i may ask how did you get those designs in the middle of the cake? and is the dots on the bottom layer fondant dots or cake icing dots?

Yea....the middle design is my quick'n'easy squiggles with royal icing...I just make a line of icing with a writing nozzle and just keep going without leaving gaps. The dots are also Royal icing with a bigger nozzle, and I dab them with a small paintbrush dipped in warm water so they are bobbles rather than them haveing peeks.......
