Description Name: Therizon
Aliases: N/A
Pronounced: (Therr-eye-zahn)
Faction: Rogue
Alignment: Neutral Evil

Classification: Therizinosaurus cheloniformis
Length: 425 feet
Height: 250 feet
Weight: 560 tons

Weaponry / Abilities:

Saberbill / Leafcutter Teeth:
Therizon’s beak sports a pair rigid plates projecting from its upper and lower halves. The upper plates are worn down into sharp knife-like blades; the lower plates are duller and act as protective sheaths for the uppers. They are weapons used exclusively for attacking his enemies, stabbing deep into flesh and inflicting grievous, bloody wounds.

Scything Claws:
Therizon’s most distinguishing feature is the six enormous claws on his hands. A trait inherited from his Therizinosaurus ancestry, these serrated rapier-like claws serve several purposes, but in combat is where they truly come into their own. Slashing, stabbing, and swiping away, Therizon can literally cut an unarmored enemy to pieces.

Crampon Claws:
Therizon’s innermost toe is prehensile and tipped with a large claw, allowing him to viciously kick and slash at his adversaries like an overgrown rooster.

Dorsal Spines / Feather Armor:
Therizon’s backbone sports a row of bony spines. These provide him with a means of both cooling and physical protection. A dense coat of shaggy feathers provides both insulation and protection from outside threats.

Brute:
Simply put, Therizon is a brute. Using his muscle mass to his advantage he can make short work of many of his foes simply by getting a good enough grip on them.

Wreckage Scoop:
Therizon can generate a strong electromagnetic field between his outstretched claws, effectively forming a net over each hand. With these he can scoop and toss huge amounts of debris (or water) at his enemies, either using as a direct weapon or to create a smokescreen through which he can escape.

Brontide Breath:
Akin to the electric eel, Therizon naturally generates electrical fields from a series of specialized organs. He can also leech electrical energy from artificial sources.

Therizon’s most powerful offensive use for electricity is creating what could only be described as massive bolt of lightning, produced by the monster firing a natural electrolaser that seeks out low-potential targets and cannot be evaded. Gently humming and crackling with static, his maw will suddenly erupt with an enormous discharge of electrical energy, producing a blinding flash of lightning followed shortly by an intense thunderclap. With temperatures that approach 36,000°F and a raw electrical output of over one trillion watts, the lethal implications of such a discharge speak for themselves.

Plasma Gas Breath:
Therizon can ionize nearby atmospheric particles with an intensely focused electrical bolt, thus superheating the air around him into a boiling stream of plasma. Taking the form of a blindingly white flame or spark, this short-range gaseous emission is hot enough to cut through practically any material, allowing Therizon to carve out excruciating wounds (and sever entire limbs) like an industrial cutting torch. Therizon’s eyes have a translucent nictitating membrane that filters out harmful UV rays and guards against electrical discharge.

Weaknesses:

Green-Eyed Monster:
More than any physical detriment ever could, Therizon’s might is crippled by one sole aspect of his personality: an intense, envious loathing for the SGOC Defender known as Dikorus. If subjected to the just the right stimuli, the monster will fly into a rage, ransacking everything in sight until its source is obliterated.

Personality:
Therizon is a bully. Crude, brash, and quick to violence, he was once one of the mightiest kaiju on Earth, ruling in a time when few others existed to challenge him. For a time he was aimless, wandering the land in search of food and challenge, and for a time after that he took out his frustrations on an adolescent Dikorus, who wandered into Therizon’s territory not too long after he’d been orphaned.

For years he focused on Dikorus and Dikorus alone, taking his food, destroying his nests, attacking him whenever he felt a combative urge. That is, until one day, when Dikorus had enough. He stood up to Therizon one fateful day and fought back, the two devastating an entire forest before the underdog finally came out on top, his enemy bloodied and defeated. Then The Cycle came to a close, and the two fell apart in all but memory.

Now, in the modern day, Therizon has awakened once more and is looking to hunt Dikorus down, once and for all declaring himself as the dominant monster. But just how far is he willing to go to do it…?

Combat Strategy:
Therizon is a cruel, vindictive fighter that rivals Dikorus in raw combative power. Relying on his massive strength and scything talons, he prefers to tackle threats head-on. Charging forward, arms and talons outstretched, Therizon will throw his full weight into his targets, bringing down his entire physical arsenal in a merciless close-quarters onslaught. He will whittle down their defenses before inflicting a decisive crippling blow with lightning-like electrostatic bolts and blasts of searing plasma. Defensively, Therizon relies on his long neck to keep his head out of harm’s way, while his shaggy plumage deflects both physical and ranged attacks.

History:
During the last ice age Therizon was aimless, wandering the land in search of food and challenge, and for some time he took out his frustrations on an adolescent Dikorus, who wandered into Therizon’s territory not too long after he’d been orphaned.

It isn’t known when he awakened in recent times, though he was known to keep to himself in the wastes of Mongolia, content to stay there under the SGOC’s watchful eye.

For a while.

--------------------

On the night of October 21st, 2000, Therizon attacked his first major city – Lost Angeles – from the west, storming towards the coastline before being halted by an SGOC strike team. After dispatching them he was confronted by his old enemy Dikorus, who had apparently heard Therizon’s infrasonic approach from the north. The two reunited monsters fought savagely amid the surf until, finally, another strike team forced them apart. Wounded in both body and ego, Therizon escaped back into the sea, leaving Dikorus to stand bloodied and alone in the waters just off Los Angeles, a catastrophe narrowly averted.

Therizon has not approached a populated area since, but it’s commonly believed that someday, he’ll try it again…and that time, Dikorus may not be there to stop him.

--------------------------------------------------

Artist's Commentary:
This is Therizon, Dikorus’ nemesis in childhood. Therizon is one of my oldest kaiju creations, with his first illustration dating all the way back to September 2009; all in all, he hasn’t changed a huge amount within that time, but the changes have still been quite noticeable.

As my main monster Dikorus is based off of one enigmatic “Claws” dinosaur – the enormous ostrich-mimic Deinocheirus – I had always intended to create a complementary adversarial monster based off another, equally bizarre dinosaur: Therizinosaurus. With each redesign, I’ve made Therizon increasingly accurate to known therizinosaur anatomy, all the while keeping signature design traits like his monstrous scything talons, spiny neck wattle, paired feathery crests, and sabertooth beak. Initially, Therizon’s special abilities were all nuclear in nature, though I later opted for a number of electrical-based abilities. Character-wise, Therizon was initially a minor character to be slain by Dikorus, then later being recovered and resurrected by Sunset Blade as the cyborg kaiju “Mecha-Dikorus”. For a whole slew of reasons, I dropped the “Mecha-Dikorus” angle a long time ago.

Given their bad blood and near-equal capabilities on the battlefield, I’ve cast Therizon as being Dikorus’ nemesis.

Artistic Notes:
— Therizon has a total of three fingers per hand. He has a total of four toes per foot; the innermost toe is not used for walking, and is held off the ground raptor-style.
— Therizon has a total of fifteen dorsal spines on his back. They are largest towards the middle.
— Therizon has three pairs of feathery crests along his neck; this makes for six crests in total. Each crest is made up of four individual feathers.
— In terms of muscular/skeletal anatomy, posture, and forms of movement, Therizon’s design is based mainly on that of Therizinosaurus; however, Therizon’s gut isn’t quite as bulbous, his arms are longer and considerably more muscular, and his innermost toe is not used for walking. Skeletal reference: ayay.co.uk/backgrounds/dinosau… .
— Therizon’s overall coloration can be seen here, in a request made by fellow Deviant . See here: vagrant-verse.deviantart.com/a… . Take note that this rendition is no longer accurate, pattern-wise.

Indeed it is! XD

Thank you, thank you. All that was my intention from the start.

Not bad, but Therizon already has a theme picked out...every DOD kaiju has one, in fact.

Indeed. I never knew Therizon was so popular, but I'm nevertheless pleased to hear it.

I made a Journal post of said themes a long, long time ago (before you had joined DA, I think), but that list is almost entirely outdated: when the time comes, I'll just update that Journal with the new list.

All right first off this guy is awesome. I love his design, especially all the little touches like turning the claws on his feet into raptor claws. but i think my favorite pat are his powers. I am a sucker for electrical based abilities and i love how you have gone beyond just the standard lightning bolt. I don't think i have ever seen a monster use a plasma torch as a breath weapon before now. however i do have one question.

How exactly is the electrostatic flight supposed to work? I only ask because you normally have some sort of hard science behind you monster's powers, but out side of the game Infamous I have never heard of electricity being used in this way before.

And totally not because I was thinking of using the same sort of power for one of my own monsters and wanted to know if their was any truth behind it, no sir.

Thank you very much, I really appreciate the in-depth commentary.

Twisting real-world biology, chemistry, and physics always proves effective for creating unique and devastating kaiju weaponry: I've gone for a large variety of abilities within my kaiju roster, as opposed to the standard (and admittedly boring) basics that many people stick with. Another kaiju of mine has a biological acetylene torch, and a couple others have variations on the "cutting torch" theme; but no, I haven't seen a plasma torch in another kaiju either...hence why I went for it.

Well, the electrostatic charges span between Therizon's outstretched talons; they basically resemble a bat's wing membranes, but composed entirely of electrostatic energy. The charges are strong enough to resist gravitational pull and let the kaiju hover/levitate and slowly "fly" while airborne. Electrostatic levitation is a real-world phenomena, but so far it's only been doable at a small scale. When creating my kaiju's abilities, I don't obey the laws of physics per se, but I do heed their advice.

O RLY?

No problem, you earned it with the in-depth design.

This is why you are one of my favorite kaiju designers on here, and yes Agron's breath weapon is awesome.

Wow, how could I have never come across electrostatic levitation before? That has got to be one of the coolest things I have seen in awhile. Thank you for answering my question, and letting me know about this awesome phenomenon

I CONFESS NOTHING!

I have to say it is interesting to watch Therizon slowly evolve over all this time. He has slowly become stronger and stronger with each version until this design stands before us. I personally think he can't get more awesome, on the other hand I almost want to see the impossible happen.

Thank you, thank you. As they age, many DOD kaiju will change physically in order to accomodate their increasing size/mass, so if he lives long enough, Therizon would become considerably more monstrous.
