I've got a Kodak ZD710. It's not much, but it's something to practice on until I can afford a Nikon.

I'm thinking D40, they seem like the best ones. But I haven't researched a lot, so who knows. I like Canon's a lot too.

if you're going to use Nikon i suggest you to use D80 that camera is damn good!!!! or if you're going to use Canon 40D is my recommendation that's an incredible camera!!!! it pack a punch!!! the price is not different to much

check on photozone.de or dpreview.com they often help me a lot when reviewing camera or lens
