Description I bought a few new drawing materials (some watercolours and an awesome! marker) so I wanted to try them out.
It's the last moment of Cedric's life; I'm not sure I like this drawing very much though (it seems very sloppy) and Cedric didn't turn out as pretty as he is in my head, but I do adore the colour blue of the sky (that was one of my new watercolours )

character = Cedric Diggory in Harry Potter and the goblet of fire

Poor Cedric! You've really captured his expression of fear and disbelief. I was glad that JKR made him a Hufflepuff. Bravery is not limited to Gryffindors.

This is lovely, and so sad... I really like how you drew him, he does look handsome, and very kind in fact. Gaah why did he have to die? :C

I like the detail of the Riddles' house up the hill, and the watercolours look great - I especially like the colours of his face.

I really like the way you picture him - I prefer it to the film version.
I liked him a lot, too.. He was plain nice, such a good person. It was hard not to like him.

A little - no, it's downright chilling and heatbreaking how you caught the moment before his death. He looks almost bemused by what he's just heard, and a brief moment of realization follows . . .

I think it's great!! And Cedric turned out amazing, especially his eyes, they're almost hypnotic, I can totally see him as handsome as I pictured him.

thanks so much! I had some trouble with his eyes (and I still think his right eye looks too big and should be a little higher), but I'm so happy you think he looks good.

Amazing. I loved Cedric in the books so much, he was a really great guy and so innocent. It may sound weird, but his death was the most shocking to me, even more than Sirius's, cause it was just so unfair, sudden and violent.
I'm so happy you keep doing HP illustrations. Everytime I see a new one, my heart takes a leap of joy.

gerre In reply to hannah-dora [2009-11-06 22:15:35 +0000 UTC]

Cedric's death was the most shocking to me too; it just changed the whole tone of the books somehow, like suddenly anything could happen and anyone could die.
In the fifth book you kind of expect a character to die, so Sirius's death wasn't as surprising as Cedric's. Also, Cedric was one of Harry's school mates, only a little older than him, whereas Sirius (like James, Lily, Lupin, Dumbledore and to some extent even Snape) was more like a parent to him and for the story it was necessary that Harry would end up alone against Voldemort. Their deaths, no matter how aweful and sad, served a purpose for the story and made Harry stronger. Murdering Cedric was completely unnecessary, and therefor all the more disturbing.
I hope that made sense, I'm not very good at writing down ideas

hannah-dora In reply to gerre [2009-11-06 23:00:07 +0000 UTC]

I think murdering Cedric was necessary too, but it was shocking nonetheless, it only made sense to me after all the books were published. I agree that his death changed the tone of the story completely, I'm sure that was Rowling's intention, because it is from the 4th book, the middle of the series, that the dark times begin.
Oh, sorry for all the babbling. I just love talking about these books.

movie cedric wasn't how I imagined him to look either, though it's hard to say what he does look like in my head; he seems to change all the time. I think he looks okay in this drawing, but still not exactly how I imagined him. Maybe someday I'll manage to portray him right!

Raezing16 [2009-11-06 01:31:48 +0000 UTC]

The cool color scheme really does so much for making the atmosphere sad and lonely.

Also, I love you you portrayed Cedric! The way you drew him just feels so much closer to the books then how he is portrayed in the movie.

I'm so happy you like the way I portrayed him. It's difficult to get it right since everyone has their own opinions of what they think is 'handsome'.
