Description Last in the Colorado geological series. Hanging Lake is aptly named. It hangs on a ledge over a mile high, and you are welcome to visit if you don't mind climbing almost straight up for over 1000 feet. [link]

One has to be prepared to hike almost straight up for about 600 meters (much of the trail being stairs carved in the stone), and all this about about 2500 meters altitude. Yes...I was a bit winded!

Well as long as there is SOME kind of visible path, I would plod on if it took me all day (and it probably would.....)

Hi Steff, and thanks for the nice words. You should try Colorado some day.

Actually, I've been to Colorado. I just didn't have a good camera with me and I had no real time to explore. But as it happens, one of my best friends lives in Denver. What a good starting point for exploring

Lucky you, with that friend in Denver...you have a "base camp"...

Beautiful dT! I don't know much about this lake, but thanks for the extra info. Now my hubby wants to visit that place. Do you know if there's any fishing allowed there?

GeraldWinslow In reply to artizd [2007-03-22 21:17:39 +0000 UTC]

Oh sorry, dT, no fishing in this particular lake, though I could see some lovely looking trout swimming in it. But I think there are fishing opportunities nearby.

Sob! Sob! I'll let my hubby know. I'm sure we'll find a place to fish, but this place is gorgeous... We go visit and let him just drool over those good looking trout...
