Description Wikipedia Attack!!
Medea (Greek: Μήδεια, Mēdeia) is a woman in Greek mythology who was the daughter of King Aeëtes of Colchis, niece of Circe, granddaughter of the sun Helios, and later wife to the hero Jason. In Euripides' play Medea, Jason leaves Medea when Creon, king of Corinth, offers him his daughter, Creusa or Glauce.

Medea figures in the myth of Jason and the Argonauts, a myth known best from a late literary version worked up by Apollonius of Rhodes in the 3rd century B.C. and called the Argonautica. But for all its self-consciousness and researched archaic vocabulary, the late epic was based on very old, scattered materials.

Medea is known in most stories as an enchantress and is often depicted as being a priestess of the goddess Hecate or a witch. The myth of Jason and Medea is very old, originally written around the time Hesiod wrote the Theogony. It was discussed briefly in the work Little Illiad from the 6th century B.C.

Wow wow wow. Now, don't get your panties in a bunch.
Tyler Perry's Madea movies aren't exactly the most well-known in the movie industry.
Then, if you feel like geeking out and be a cinema history buff, good for you. Just keep in mind that not everyone is on the same frequency, fella.

Peace and roast nuts.

It just pisses me off that I'm constantly forced to explain my jokes to a dumb Deviantart audience, because, in the immortal words of the Joker: "If you have to explain the joke, then there is no joke!".

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

ColonelBSacquet In reply to GokuMartin [2013-11-20 21:29:26 +0000 UTC]

It pisses you off, I can see that quite clearly. But that doesn't necessarily make the audience stupid.
The audience just doesn't have the information that you have.

If you have to explain the joke, there is no joke".
But if the joke isn't understood, there is no joke either.

Anyway, now, I get your reference, so as far as I'm concerned, the matter is settled.

Actually a priestess of Hecate was also a enchantress since Hecate is the goddess of magic.
Medea did kinda all the work for Jason with her magical abilities and after some years of using her powers and beauty he decided that a young sexy girl was better -and he could become a prince again- (and Medea was a princess herself before helping Jason).
So Medea was very very angry and killed Glauce, and the King, and burned down the palace (yay) using a poisoned dress that she gave to Glauce.
Since the dress was taking by the children it's said that Corinthyan people killed them, with stones, and she took the corpse away from Jason.
By the way as Adamkaimaras said the most famous version have Medea to kill them.
She did it because she knew that that was the only way to hurt Jason the most (or in some version to "save" them from Jason, since she didn't want him to take them away from her).
Then she took away the corpse in her grandfather Helios carriage leaving Jason for ever.

Jason died alone after suffering for what he did (some myths say that he was "killed" by Argo crumbling on him...even the boat hated him lol, he was such a useless jerk).

Medea name come from the same theme word of a lot other words, expecially one that mean both "to poison" "to enchant" and "to cure" and the last is the most used meaning of this word.
She was a healer, and an enchantress (the greatest, or second one with Circe), and a princess, and a demigod (her father's parents were both gods even if minor ones, and actually someone says tha her mother was Hecate herself).
And she is one of my favourite myth woman ever, she was strong and proud woman, that was why the ancient Greece society who was misogynous and male-ruled hated her and feared her (you can see it in Euripides' play).

NB This thing about ancient Greece is not my personal judgement it's truth, I love this society and have studied it for five years XD

p.s. It's not criticism against this art (fav+ btw, i so love it) it's just a comment about this character since her myth -as said- is really ancient and so have many version and many way of reading.
Sorry for my english ç_ç

Media was an enchantress and was Hecates priestess!!!
What you forgot to mention is that when Jason left her in order to marry Creon's daughter, she god jealous and mad and in order to take revenge she killed her children. Of course Jason never return to her, especially after what she did to him.

She was the first mother who killed her own children to revenge her husband, the father of her children. Since then when a mother does something like this we call her Medea. It's the worst thing to say in a mother now days in Hellas!!!

Nice use of the blue and red. She looks much more innocent than some of the other goddesses you've done. Made me wonder if they were all wildcats in the bedroom or something. Love her dress and that midpart looks like a pillar. Is that a photograph in the background?
