Beautiful... And very fascinating, considering that this might be a Japanese Christan saint! You make him look really cool too! Well done!

Excellent work! I remember reading about him when I was a kid. In myth (mostly anime/video games lol), before he dies he curses the Christian god, and he then becomes a demon. There were rumors (real life), that his body was never found. He did a pretty impressive thing for a 15 year old lol.
I did my version of him for a graphic novel I've been working on, though he is in modern era. Its martial arts themed big time, and has a lot of biblical references. Because of some of the weird rumors of Amakusa, I decided to make him a Nephilim

I think Amakusa gets that treatment in anime is because most Japanese aren't Christian, and samurai-themed anime (at least those I've seen) tend to be negative about "Western invaders." Also, a lot of Japanese view the Cross as a creepy symbol, due to the fact that to them, it's the execution device for some guy who died and supposedly came back to life. Using crosses in an ominous manner is a trope in anime.

Yeah, they were on the rise for a time, but when Japan began to unite in the late-16th to early-17th centuries, Hideyoshi and then Tokugawa both decided that Christianity (and eventually, non-Japanese things in general) was a destablizing influence on the nation, and kicked out or killed just about all the Japanese Christians. Christianity's only just now beginning to return to being a significant religious minority in Japan, though a substantial majority of the population has left organized religion altogether, so that's really not saying much.

Wow. This one really calls to me. It's almost deceptively simple. Strong, clean lines for him, muted background, the ideal trading card. I love the color change from top to bottom and the effect of the proportioning: I'm drawn to his stern, sharp face, lit by the moon, and then gradually move onto the tough, muscled arm and sword and then the sweeping leg stance with dust billowing. He really means business!
