Description Turn of the Century Occult Hero Heroes for Hire.

"Donny" Xie was raised in a mysterious enclave of monks known as KΕ«n LΓ³ng. There he was trained in the Iron Dragon style of martial arts, rising to the position of Fist. He then embarked on a sacred quest, prophesied by the order's wise men. He journeyed far to the East, to the land of America. Then, he was unexpectedly rounded up by agents for the Fisk Railroad Concern and forced to work as part of a leased labor chain gang.

It was in this chain gang that Donny met John Henry Cage, a mighty steel-driving man, and a similarly unjustly incarcerated convict. The two first met during a bare-knuckle fight arranged by their bored overseers. Donny's lightning fast kung fu was an even match for John Henry's incredible strength. After that, they became fast friends, and a legendary team. Donny acted as a shaker, putting his reflexes and nerves to use as John Henry pounded in the spikes.

Their notoriety eventually led to their selection as Fisk Railroad Concern's representatives in a contest against the rival Stark Transportation Company and their new steam drill. The duo worked at blinding speed, matching the machine blow for blow. Suddenly, tragedy struck as the frantic tunneling caused the ground below both to give way, tumbling the two into a subterranean cavern.

Both were unhurt, but they were soon overwhelmed by the magnitude of their discovery. A massive mechanism, buried deep beneath the mountain. It was alike in design to a mostly disassembled device found by a band of socialist miners in West Virginia, but far more complete. They found a tablet at the center of the complex mechanism that glowed with unearthly light, and Donny knew that this had been the purpose of his quest. The two took the tablet and ran, for the tablet alone was a source of great physical power, enough to permit their escape. Both feared what might happen if it fell into the wrong hands, or worse, what might befall the world if the mechanism were ever activated!

Both men are now nearly bulletproof, possessing enormous reserves of strength and speed. They are on the lam, and so they walk the least traveled roads of the country, trying to stay ahead of their pursuers. Their good hearts have made the journey difficult, for they always act on their consciences. Along the way they've come to symbolize the triumph of the ordinary man over the evils of authority, and some celebrate them as folk heroes.

Judging from this picture, it's referring to the backstory for this universe's Magneto.Β

These stories resonate a lot with me when compared to the originals. Superheroes always end up defending the status quo too much, it's nice to see the archetypes reworked as people with a stake in promoting real change.

The best feature is the research you put into it,

I don't do a ton of research, but I do try to do enough to tie real-life history together with the fictional history I'm inventing based on the comics source material. The comics stuff takes at least as much research, because all these characters have extremely complex histories themselves!

Indeed. I'm tying all these things together, see? It's a network now, with my clever lies supporting other clever lies until it turns out it's all real and really happened.

He already mentioned Stark, the "Iron Knight", in a couple of previous deviations. "Fisk" is probably who you think he is...
