Description Before I begin, I'd just like to mention that it's been forever since I've made one of these fantasy character select pics. I've just been so busy with my OC projects so much that I  had more fun with those than I had with making pictures like this one. The same can be said about me doing fan crossovers like Marvel vs. SNK and the soon-to-start Mortal Kombat X Namco Universe. But of course given what I've been uploading lately, like with Marvel vs. SNK, expect something like me doing more fantasy roster images to be more slower than me doing my OC stuff, even if fantasy roster pics are just side things to pass time with when not doing my projects. Now that with all being said, let's get to the picture above.

If you remember back in 2013 and early 2014, I did a fantasy character select picture depicting my ideal roster for a hypothetical Mortal Kombat/Darkstalkers krossover . Well guess what ladies and gentlemen, that picture is officially OUTDATED! This is the new shit right hurr'! In fact, I pretty much like this updated version of my ideal MK vs. Darkstalkers roster better than my other one lol. Not saying I'll get rid of the old version. It'll still be up. I'm just now favoring this new updated roster pic over the old one, that's all. Expect an updated version of my ideal Mortal Kombat vs. Street Fighter roster pic to be uploaded soon, especially with Street Fighter V coming out and all.

Now I'll go ahead and be real about this. I still am a big fan of a Mortal Kombat/Street Fighter krossover fan trend and all. But you know what, and regardless as to whether or not you're into the idea of a Mortal Kombt and Street Fighter krossover (not implying it will ever happen, especially since Ed Boon did state that he has absolutely no plans for such a krossover no matter how much he'd love to do so), you do have to admit that a Mortal Kombat and Darkstalkers krossover would actually make the most sense! Hell, even moreso than MK vs. SF if you ask me lol. As I've stated before, the reason this krossover would make the most sense is because both Mortal Kombat and Darkstalkers have a very dark tone (though MK's tone tends to be darker but still) and both franchises have their fair share of horror and dark fantasy friendly tropes like blood, gore, monsters, demons, supernatural realms, nightmare fuel (YA RLY!) and the undead.

Now unlike my previous MK vs. Darkstalkers pic, this one does not exclusively consist of the more horror/dark fantasy oriented characters like Scorpion here, but also now has Jade, Kenshi and normal Sub-Zero added into this new thread! The overall tone of the picture, however, is still dark though.

I just decided that since we're closer to Halloween, I thought it'd be appropriate to upload something to get into the Halloween mood so I went with my first fantasy crossover character select pic since forever!

FAQs (FAQs are subjected to change, though)
Q: If this game existed, do you think it would be distributed through retail or digital download?
A: BOTH! Let's just say that!

Q: What do you think the game would be rated?
A: Well to be honest, while I see a Mortal Kombat and Street Fighter krossover to be rated either Teen or Mature, however despite the fact that Darkstalkers has never been an M-rated series itself, I can only picture such a krossover as being, well, M-rated. True, like Street Fighter, Darkstalkers may have always been rated T and stuff but when you think about it, Street Fighter isn't necessarily as edgy in context as Darkstalkers tends to be, given that the Darkstalker series is more darker in tone and theme and, believe it or not, there actually is bloody violence in the games eventhough it's not nearly as bad as MK's bloody violence. Plus, Darkstalkers, with the exception of that 90s cartoon, has never come off as something for the kids. So yeah, that's why, if the game even existed, I see it as only being M-rated unlike with a MK vs. SF krossover which I see as being either T or M, but that's just me though.

Q: What's your idea for its gameplay?
A: I see it as being like Mortal Kombat X, in which, yes, there are interactables in the stages. However, unlike in MKX, there are actually stage fatalities, except the stage fatalities would actually be in the form of animations similar to stage transitions, which means that like the other MKs, you can only do a stage fatality after enough rounds were won. Oh yeah, and everyone has two fatalities... except the fatalities in Dark Kombat are called Darkalities. The Darkalities take place in the same background as the Dark Forces in Darkstalkers 3 and they will either come off as your usual fatalities or X-Ray moves akin to the ones in MKX (only because MKX's X-Ray moves look like fatalities anyways).

Q: What's your idea for its story and would there even a story mode at all?
A: There is a story for Dark Kombat... but no, there's no Story Mode in it, since this is much different from your usual MK krossover. The story behind Dark Kombat would be that the MK universe takes place after the events in MK3 where Shao Kahn is no more. However, Shinnok has returned and he's the one starting a world merge crisis. Now the closest Dark Kombat has to story mode would be Arcade Mode, which are like the Arcade Modes in Playstation All-Star Battle Royale where each character has a prologue intro accompanied by illustrations, then a rivalry cutscene, then a final boss cutscene (I'll get to that in the next FAQ below), then an epilogue that is accompanied by illustrations. Most of the prologues and epilogues are narrated by the characters themselves.

Q: Who would be the game's final boss?
A: Shinnok! There are two stages of facing Shinnok just like in Mortal Kombat X. First stage is Shinnok as himself. Then comes the second and final stage in which he transforms into Corrupted Shinnok.

Q: Can you explain what Jason and Nemesis are doing here?
A: There are two unlockable guest characters in Dark Kombat, but only one guest character per side (similar with Street Fighter X Tekken were you had Bad Box Art Mega Man on the SF side and Pac-Man on the Tekken side). With the Mortal Kombat side, you have Jason Voorhees... because let's face it! Jason fits PERFECTLY, and I mean he fits %100 well, with the Mortal Kombat krew! There's a reason he was made a guest fighter for MKX along with Predator, who also fits PERFECTLY in Mortal Kombat. Meanwhile on the Darkstalkers side, there's Nemesis from Resident Evil since, like Darkstalkers, RE is also a horror tite from Capcom. So it makes sense to have somebody from Resident Evil in a Darkstalkers just as much as having Dante from Devil MAy Cry in a Darkstalkers.

Q: Are there any DLC at all in this?
A: Not DLC characters for sure. However, if there would be any DLC I can picture being in Dark Kombat, it would be a Klassic Pack (for the MK kharacters) and a Kosplay Pack (for all characters except for the guests). I don't need to get into the Klassic Pack since we all know what those are like anyways, but when it comes to a Kosplay Pack, it basically consists of cosplay outfits for different characters. For the MK kharacters, it's cosplays based on other Capcom properties and for Darkstalkers characters, it's Warner Bros. properties, including other WB Interactive titles like The Witcher and DC Comics. So just imagine Jade cosplaying as Laura Matsuda or Kenshi as Hayato Kanzaki. Or how about Donovan cosplaying as Geralt of Rivia or Victor as Solomon Grundy!

Q: Where the hell are some of the other kombatants like Liu Kang, Kitana and Raiden?
A: Look, I'm sorry that some of your favorites are not present in the roster, but mark my words. It's always possible for such characters like Liu Kang and Raiden to cameo in each character's arcade mode story! Remember, anybody who's not made a playable character is bound to cameo in some sort of way.

You forgot to list Quan Chi's name in the description explaining the roster.

I agree with no DLC characters.  It's hard to think some up (the only NRS DLC I could think to add is Anubis from War Gods and Evil Marie from CarnEvil, and for Capcom, maybe Firebrand and Tessa).

Interestingly, Capcom should give more value to this franchise. The Darkstalkers characters shouldn't be forgotten.

Yeah. Also, Jade vs. Felicia, eh? What made ya decide that, even though I love that rivalry?

Probably stems from when we were discussing about Halloween skins for you MK vs. Nintendo krossover. That, and remembering when Jade use to have an animality where she'd turn into a cat.

Oh, yes. That. Also, are ya doing movesets for this? Or is this only a "show and tell" sort of thing (for lack of better words)?

No, it's just a show and tell thing to get into the Halloween mood.

That's kool and all. I'm gonna play some Mario Party 10 on my Wii U. Once I'm done, I'll get to Darunia's moveset.
