Haha, well, I guess it's just a different tool/program, you know? ^.^; It does take some getting used to. But at least I have inked and toned traditionally before, although that was like...eight or nine years ago. O_o I still have some of my originals. I've definitely improved, not just in my art but also in my understanding of how to ink. I've been looking at the most recent volume of Yami no Matsuei as my reference in the last couple weeks, and that's definitely helped. I absolutely adore Matsushita Youko's style. If I could ink and tone like that, I'd be golden, but I've got a long way to go yet! ^.^;
And thanks. <3 At this point, I'm just hoping my manga will turn out okay. (Still some things to do before I really get to it, though...)

Aw, no shounen-ai/BL for you? ^^ Hehe, I only like the implicit stuff myself. I prefer to have things left to my imagination. ^_~ Or perhaps more accurately, it's not the physical relationship I like but the emotional one. I think that goes for most stuff for me. And I guess your friend asked for Muraki, the bad guy. ^^ Hm, I guess there was a lot of fanservice-y kind of stuff, but I never really considered Yami no Matsuei BL. ^^ Maybe I have a stricter definition of BL. ^o^ It's been years since I read the earlier stuff (which is more BL than the later stuff is, I think), though. But Matsushita-sensei's art and skill really improved a lot over the years. If you compare the first volume to the last, wow, what a difference!
As for my manga, this one is a series, although I guess I will have to see how it goes. I have accumulated quite a few ideas for farther down the road already; I just hope people like it enough for me to continue it that long. ^.^; (And that I myself won't lose interest.) For me, there's always a lot of self-doubt about creating stories. Like, initially, I think, Great idea! But it doesn't take long for me to start wondering, Is it really that good? What if it's stupid? OTL This one's no different. ^.^; I want to do at least a couple more practice illustrations before I get into the actual page layouts. And then I'm of a mind to do some practice pages. There's actually a short FFVII-based doujinshi I've wanted to do for a while, so I'm sure that'll come first. Then we'll see... (I was actually inspired with a new idea by something else more recently. I'm considering doing a one-shot of that to have a full-length chapter practice as well...)
And this is definitely serious! I'm not that funny, so there's no way I could do comedy, and I'm not interested in sappy stuff. Of course, that's not to say that I won't include comic relief (if I can manage to be funny!) or love interests when they're called for. If you've read Wild Adapter, I think the tone will probably be something along those lines. (Not intentionally, haha. Ah, Minekura-sensei.)
BTW, I finished Reload today. ^^

To be honest I have no idea if Yami no Matsuei is Shonen-Ai, Yaoi or only gives hints. My friend just used to call it Shonen-Ai so I believed her. ^^
Similar with Wild Adapter. I asked several people and some said, it's not BL and other said, it definitely is 'cause it gives so many hints. I bought them 'cause I actually bought every manga of Minekura which was published in my country, but I haven't read them yet and I probably never will. 'Cause I know myself and if it really would be bl-related I'd throw all 6 volumes in the garbage right away. The collector in me would feel like "Nooo!! It's worth money and you have to complete the collection!!", but on the other hand I simply just dislike any kind of bl. No matter if Shonen-Ai, Yaoi, Hints or whatever. It's just disgusting to me, sorry.
And yes, I also totally hate this "pairing-sickness" around anime fandoms, where female fans use to make couples of random guys out of the blue just because they like the way the characters look (you'll surely never see a fan-created pairing with ugly guys 'cause of course only the handsome guys suddenly become gay for no reason XD ).
It's completely out of character if a womanizer like Gojyo for example suddenly switch interest, arch-nemesises became lovers (FFVII anyone?) or even married guys with children are changed by so called fans (Vegeta/Goku still gives me the creeps).
But don't get me wrong, I don't like "One-Day Mary Sue" either. If suddenly a new female character shows up and she's sooooo perfect and everyboy loves her and of course every guy around wants her. D'oh! >_< Know what? I have a female OC myself and yes, she is a completely brainless Sephiroth-fangirl. But I write stuff featuring this character since 1998 and I NEVER would let Sephiroth act completely out of character and let him return her feelings for no reason just like that. It's ooc and a good writer never should do this, no matter how much he likes a character.
But I guess I lost the point. What was I about to say? Ah.
I hope you'll do fine with this series and don't lose interest and confidence in your own work that quickly. For real you have no idea how much a dabbler like me admires you and your work. I'd give my soul for such a talent. So don't lose confidence in your work, you are gorgeous, hell yes! vΓ__Γ³v
Ha, ha.. That's the point where I regret not to live in the USA 'cause you have so many good artists and I'll never have the chance to see all this awesome stuff like yours. In next life I defintely have to chose a cooler country to live.
What's up with the FFVII do? Will it be a print or are you going to upload the pages here on dev?

Haha, I'm totally with you on the OOC stuff. It's just so weird to me to see characters behaving in ways that I don't expect them to. But I guess one of the things about yaoi is that it's girls fantasizing, so when you do that, the guys can act however you want them to, LOL! Not my thing, though. ^^
Yami no Matsuei is definitely more BL than Wild Adapter. ^o^ But I suppose some people must consider Wild Adapter BL or else it wouldn't be serialized in a BL magazine. ^.^; I dunno, in my personal opinion, through six and a half volumes of it, I didn't see anything that I would consider BL at all. But I guess you got different opinions from different people already, haha! At the very least, hints or no hints, I thought it was pretty obvious that the two main characters have not had sex with each other and have shown no interest in it either. It's too bad that you're "afraid" to read it, though! I admit that the first volume is kinda slow, but each successive volume is better than the last, and it's soooo good! I wish Minekura-sensei could take some time away from Saiyuki a bit and continue with Wild Adapter. Of course, with the recent news of her health issues coming to the fore again, even Saiyuki isn't possible...
So out of curiosity, does BL bother you even if the guys are in fact gay or bi?
Well, thanks for your vote of confidence. ^^ I'm very nervous not just about whether the story is any good, but also whether I can actually draw manga. ^.^; Sequential art is soooo different from illustration... Here's hoping! And if you like manga and anime (and Japanese games), why settle for the U.S.? Living in Japan would be awesome then! ^o^ In a way, I kind of wish I were in Japan since although it's difficult and there's so much competition in manga there, at least Japan has a path to making a living off manga, what with so many manga magazines available. Here in the U.S., there's...nothing. And even it's U.S. comics you want to do, as a (non-newspaper) comics artist, you'll pretty much never do your own story. Not only that, you're only a piece of the puzzle, since comics split up the tasks of writing, penciling, inking, coloring, and lettering. I guess that might make any single person's job easier, but there's a reason besides the art style that I would rather do manga than comics.
As for the doujinshi, more specifically, it's based on Crisis Core. I forgot, you being "Sep's Angel" would of course be familiar with FFVII, haha! As with all my stuff, it'll be free to look at online, so yeah, I believe it'll be uploaded here. I have an idea of how I want to present my manga stuff, and I think I can do it that way here. Eventually, I hope I can print my manga stuff for those who would like it, but currently, my intention is that it'll always be free to read. ^^
BTW, I saw that Hakkai running away episode. So...funny! And it made me feel sorry for him, seeing what all he has to put up with! You would think that his living with Gojyo for a few years would have helped Gojyo...

XD Our BlahBlah-Postings became longer and longer. Sorry for always taking so much of your precious time (although I really enjoy this).
Personal I'd like Minekura to give Bus Gamer a bit more attention. Would be cool to find out, if there's still some kind of "meaningful story" behind all this. Plot seems to be very simple at the beginning, but Minekura is just the type of person who suddenly change things like that.
But of course I read the blog-entry 'bout her health issues too. It really is sad and surely everybody wish that she'll manage this shit as good and soon as she can. Poor lady.
'Bout your question.
Well, that's difficult to explain.
Characters acting OOC is one thing, I 100% disagree with in any sitch (no matter if bl or other ooc stuff).
But to answer your question I don't like mangas where the characters actually are gay/bi either. It's mostly all about "doing it", no story, no plot, nothing interesting. *boring*
And unlike most girls I don't share the opinion that "guy & guy" is esthetic. I mean, come on. Do they even know how real sex between two guys look? It has absolutely nothing to do with this bl-image.
Not to mention that in a bl manga of course 10 of 10 characters of course are gay (or become gay out of the blue) and of course they are all handsome. Oh please.. so realistic.
Take Gurren Lagann for example. I watched 6 episodes so far and there's 1 gay guy who sometimes jokes/try to flirt with others. And know what? It doesn't really bother me as much as bl mangas 'cause I know it doesn't mean that every other male will suddenly do the same. There's only this one guy between so may straight males. So this is way more realistic than the unwritten "10 of 10" rule.
But well, on the other hand I also canβt share some guysβ passion for girl & girl. Same thing.
Guess I simply like good old classic boy and girl stuff. ^^
Actually I never would have expected that the sitch for artist who prefer to draw manga/anime-related style in the US is that bad. After all even in Europe there are many manga published by local artists so somehow I automatically guessed it was similar (and even better) in the US. Okay, most of local artist have other jobs too, but they still continue publishing their works.
And yes, youβre right. My Nick is based on Sephirothβs heartless/fallen angel attack. It surely was my fav attack in the original FF7 and I just wished he would have used it in the last battle more often. It would have made the battle much more interesting.
Iβm not into the FF7 spin-offs, but I definitely would read your doujinshi βcause I like your art a lot and am curious how you tell/write a story.
Yeah, Hakkai runs away from home. Best episode ever. It just shows perfectly what a nasty little bitch he can be sometimes (even if heβs totally right in this episode imo).
Did you also saw the episode where the guys play this cursed game and Sanzo became a tree? Another very stupid one, but you gotta luv this kind of filler episodes.

LOL, I don't mind at all! I'm really enjoying it too. ^^ I wonder what other people would think if they bothered to read our comments, though, haha! >_>;
I haven't checked out Bus Gamer yet, but I definitely will when I get the chance and I remember! I'm sure there's always some kind of meaning behind everything in these stories. Even if the creator doesn't think of them from the beginning, they will make something up later. ^_~
Haha, I definitely get what you mean about the "all sex and no story" stuff. I'm not into that either. And really, I'm not interested in seeing graphic sex , no matter who's doing it! ^^ (I enjoy the occasional fanservice, though. ^o^) Still, the point of BL is that it's girls' fantasy, so it's not like the image has to match reality. ^^ But I guess what I meant more specifically by my question was...something like, if a guy is actually gay so it's natural that he's attracted to guys, would seeing his BL tendencies in manga annoy you? ^^ And you kind of answered that too. ^^ I wasn't thinking of a whole herd of gay guys or "all sex and no story". >A< I have never seen or read hardcore BL (like, graphic) before, so I honestly don't know a lot about it. I was actually kind of apprehensive about trying Wild Adapter since I knew it was supposed to be BL! Hm, what am I trying to say? It's just that to me, the story and characterization are always paramount, BL or not.
As for the manga situation in the U.S., there are a few companies that localize manga from Japan here and a couple that even publish U.S. "manga". But it's not the same as Japanese serialization, where there are tons of manga magazines every month (and the bigger ones come out even more often than that), and then later the chapters of individual series are published in volumes for collectors. As far as I can tell, it's just the volumes here, even for non-Japanese stuff. I have no idea how you could make a living off that. And of course, there's just not very many places that you could submit to here. *sigh* I would have to think that most people who want to do manga in the U.S. have to do it totally on their own for the most part, self-publishing and all.
Hehe, I'm not sure my doujinshi would qualify as "telling a story", exactly. Certainly not "writing". *mysterious* But you'll see when I'm done. ^_~ I'd like to do a whole series of these little shorts eventually too, but eh, one thing at a time.
Hah, even Hakkai can get angry. ^^ I loved it when he ignored Gojyo in the restaurant! And OMG, the cursed board game episode was awesome! I actually really like the filler stuff in Saiyuki 'cuz it's a nice break from the same old "demons appear, 'give us the scripture!', 'no!', fight and easy victory" routine. My favorite part was when Hakkai was turned into a game piece. I was like, "Squeeeee~~~ I want one!!" Sooooo cuuuuuute! >o< I rewound the video just to see him as the piece again, LOL!

SepsAngel In reply to GEIKOUart [2010-10-07 18:15:29 +0000 UTC]
Ha, ha.. I so can sign this attitude. Sometimes fanservice can be really nice (Hakkai falls in a river and has to take his shirt off to dry it? Anytime! XD). But actually that's enough for me. Just like you said before, rest is better up to fantasy. But okay, everybody should draw/watch what they like. ^^
And I'm glad that I answer your question somehow. Have to say that sometimes I have problems with english and get stuff wrong. So if I did, sorry for that.
Guess I got the part with the manga sitch in the US. Not so good after all. I'm sorry to hear that. So you don't have any specific plans for publishing your manga there yet? 0_o? I wonder what you'd prefer, self-publishing or to go to one of these bigger publisher, who support local mangakas too. Buut I guess time will show. Concentrate on the manga and drawing training surely is more important to you at the moment.
And yeeesss.. Hakkai ignoring Gojyo was so funny. XD Did you noticed the cockroach-sound when Gojyo first tries to hide from him? Best sound of the whole episode.
But my fav part was when Sanzo came and gave Hakkai the drink. When they were looking at each other with this cold faces, I felt like "Come on, guys!! Nerd-fight, nerd-fight, I wanna see NEEEEERD-FIIIIIGHT!!!"
But no nerd-fight. Mah.. T__T
In the manga there was this chapter which totally reminds of Dragonball tournament.
Gojyo has to fight against Hakkai and Goku against Sanzo. Of course Hakkai and Sanzo won, so they were in the final round and I was like "YES!!! Finally I see nerd-fight!!" But no.. still no nerd-fight 'cause they both pretend suddenly to feel sick 'cause they didn't want to be put in the winners outfit. -.-
I swear one day I'll see nerd fight. Hakkai would so beat the crap outta Sanzo. XD

Haha! Hakkai isn't shirtless often enough! Although the fanservice in the episode where they're at the bathhouse was definitely enjoyable. >o< Also that one where the girl steals Sanzo's gun. Ohhhh, Hakkai in the bath... =^^=
And your English is great! I think my question was just sort of vague is all. ^^ I wish I were as good at another language as you are at English. I've got some Chinese and Japanese but they're not even close to this level. And I took French in high school but that was soooo long ago...
I don't have anything specific planned for my manga yet as far as publishing goes. If I wanted to go with a big publisher, I don't even know how I'd do it. Tokyopop used to hold a contest called "Rising Stars of Manga", but I think they stopped a few years ago. Surely most places don't take unsolicited manga, but I guess I'll see when I actually have something to show. In the meantime, I did look up some self-publishing places, so I'm using the template for one of them as the basis of my pages. It almost makes me want to start a U.S. manga magazine, but I have noooo idea how to even begin.
You know, I didn't notice Gojyo's cockroach sound in that ep. I'm gonna have to rewatch it just to hear it, LOL! And I gotta find more time to read the manga! >_< I'd love to see these guys fight each other, hehe. ^o^

Ah, almost forget.
Since you finshied Reload, maybe you can help.
You remember this urasai, where Goku reads the book about what people were in their previous lifes?
He said, he was a dolphin, Gojyo was a grasshopper, Sanzo was Suzuki-san's goldfish and Hakkai was a back-scratching tool (wtf? XD).
Sorry, but somehow I don't get it. Why the heck a back-scratching tool? Did I miss something? 0_O???

Haha, I didn't carefully check all the proportions, so maybe they're off a little. ^.^; Honestly, though, it's usually better to draw hands that are a little too big rather than a little too small. Too small is really obvious whereas too big (to a point) isn't. ^^
