Description WATCH YouTube VIDEO of how I painted this: : youtu.be/h6ngRtx7mkE

A purple iris flower from Bodnant Gardens in North Wales. I loved the curling shape of the petals, closing up like curled fingers. Plus it had those purple Zebra stripes on the inside of the petals that looked fun to paint. I used tissue paper to 'blot' the green paint in the background to give it a softer appearance.
Created using Aquamarker watercolour markers on a type of watercolour paper I was not used to, the strange surface sizing that made the paints dry quickly and the markers 'stain' the paper a bit (see top corners) so I don't think i'll be using it again - back to the Bockingford 190gsm!
Letraset Aquamarkers on 190gsm Daler Rowney watercolour paper.

Thank you! That dark edge-to-light-edge was what I was hoping for

what was the paper?

It was a rough 300gsm watercolour paper from a British stationery store, a Well-known High-street Store... It worked okay with classic watercolours but not so good with the markers.  Having said that, it was not the worst watercolour paper I've used with them either!

Okay.  I wanted to know in case it was Strathmore, which is what I generally buy, or Canson, which someone warned me against (well, the marker paper, anyway).

Btw, I've noticed certain colors don't seem to 'melt' as well as others (have I said this before?) Do you notice that too?  If so, how do you compensate, other than simply not drawing directly on the paper?

I think I know what you mean some colours seem to be more soluable in the water and also there is a difference between the thin and thick nibs.  The thick nibs seem to lay down more colour and its intensity is richer than the thin nib. I suppose I use the colours I know work for me, again and again.  For instance, when I did the Purple Aeonium, , I used a red and blue, mixed together to make the purple colours but with the iris I tried using different purple markers.  I really do think it was mostly the paper here, it was the shops own brand but they might be supplied by Daler Rowney although I'm not sure about that. I have a scrap piece of paper next to me and I test each marker on that before I use them, that helps.

Oh nice! Really precise work, no need to think twice which flower it is  That colour combination of purple and orange, those stripes! I love Irises!

It's kinda funny: every time the deviation title has 'Aquamarkers' in it there's no doubt who made it

Haha! I think, judging by my views on YouTube it's because hardly anyone else is using them No matter, I like 'em and my colours are so much brighter with them than my usual watercolours.  Thanks for checking it out

I don't think it really matters, how many people are using them as long as you personally like working with them (BTW checked on Google: with 'aquamarkers' there came a few stamp colourings, one or two intermediate marker works and then there were your paintings. They really stand out! )

And no problem (of course)!

I adore your art so every time something new comes out I go

Thank you for doing that you're right, I enjoy using them and I'm just trying to spread that around, to hopefully inspire others to give them a try!  In return, I'm learning a lot from your work as to how to use my Promarkers, so thank you for sharing

I have already considered buying them.. .

R-really?

It's hard to believe someone learning anything from my scribbles but thank you!

My approach is very layered and measured, you have a more expressive and carefree approach that I need to adopt more of!

By expressive and carefree you mean pretty lazy?

Because that's what I am, at least most of the time
