The Watermarks are killing me bro, but I understand why you put them up. Isn't it funny how you can't make a living off your own stuff but some schlub slaps an image of yours on a mug or shirt and they make billions? WTF is wrong with the world?
Anyway, great Spidey coloring sassman!

Bro you are really doing a great job on these cell shaded pics. I think deep down you want to do this type of stuff more then the painted comic stuff you have been doing. Going in my favs.

Oh yeah, I love coloring the cel style stuff. And I could still get the painter jones outta the way with cel stuff in the backgrounds. I just wish there was a larger demand for it so that I could actually get paid to do it. Most of the sequentials I've worked on just aren't meant for the style.

I agree. I don't know why comic publishers are pushing the painting style so hard. If you want to reach a younger audience they should do more cell shaded stuff. That is what kids are into. They love anime and manga stuff. I am really burned out with the super realistic books. Marvel has just flooded the market with that stuff.

Honestly, I wish they had an line of animated titles. They have the Adventures titles which are supposed to be more "all ages" books from what I hear (haven't actually read any), but even in those they tend to go with the more realistic style of artwork. They should go for a toony title for some of their iconic characters and try to start grabbing onto some of that younger demograhic that manga has a monopoly on now. Not go crazy and try to do the whole Mangaverse thing again, but simply make a book that has the aesthetics of cartoons and anime that doesn't change the history/identity of the characters.

I agree whole heartly but Joe Q hates and I mean hates anything that resembles an animated style. He wants everything to look like you were watching a real movie, which I don't understand, I don't buy comics to see a movie, I buy them to read a comic. He even told his editors not to accept any samples from artist that have this type of style. It just sucks. When I start my company I am going to push the animated stuff. When I get the cash I will make sure you get a book or two.

That's kinda crazy. Joe Q isn't what I'd consider one of the most realistic artists out there, especially when you look at most of his earlier stuff. I mean that as a compliment though. Back when I could actually afford comics I was a fan of his art. I loved his work on X-Factor and Ash.

Yeah, that is what kind of pisses me off about the whole thing. Joe Q use to be a very animated style artist and now he hates the stuff? I don't really get it. Ash was the bomb. I use to love that book. Just goes to show you that power corrupts. LOL

I must be the Rodney Dangerfield of comic artists. No respect.

Maybe I should start a BAN THE WATERMARKS petition.

I was telling someone the other day that it's a shame there isn't a larger demand for this kinda stuff. I have more fun with this style of coloring than I do with anything else. It'd probably be decent print stuff for cons though if you had em at a reasonable price.

Muady In reply to GarryHenderson [2008-02-09 19:50:47 +0000 UTC]
Could probably lower the production price for comics, the style may not fit all art but i bet it would look really nice in some.
I remeber a x-men issue with totaly diffrent art, all nice and cellshaded pretty much like you do
