The servants had blown out the candles and made sure the fireplace was put out before leaving Fluttershy's room. It was dark, but not too dark. She was always provided just enough light so she wouldn't be scared, thanks to the orders her son had given. She felt lonely....sad....and felt she had caused all of this. She must have done something wrong....

As those thoughts whirled around her head, she heard hoofsteps heading toward her room, she was familiar with the sound. The door creaked open. She sat up, squinting her eyes just a bit when the sudden light lite the room. At the door was a dark silhouette wearing an even darker cape.

Mirage.

He looked around the room then stepped inside, making just a few of the candles around the room light up with his magic and shut the door.

Flutttershy: "Mirage..."

He didn't respond back - he never really spoke to her, not anymore since he had done all this.

Fluttershy: "Mirage, please! Y-you can stop this now...there doesn't need to be anymore fighting. No pony else has to get hurt!" She pleaded with him. He still didn't say anything.

Fluttershy: "We can fix all of this....I can help you. We can apologize to the princesses and end all this!" Fluttershy held her breath when he faced her.

He didn't show her any emotion, just slowly walked over to her and laid by her, placing his head on her back.

Fluttershy just looked at him. Was she scared of him? No. He had never hurt or threatened her. Yes, he had locked her away, but he placed her in a very comfortable room and gave her plenty of food and water. Servants were always sent to check on her and to make sure that whatever she needed, she got. She barely felt the chain around her neck that made sure she stayed in this room. It was made by his magic, so it never hurt her, but also made sure no pony could break it.

Fluttershy was given privileges she knew the rest of Equestria wasn't getting, but she still felt trapped. All she could do was try to convince her son to stop all this.

Fluttershy: "Mirage...if I failed you as a mother-"

Mirage: "Quiet."

Mirage cut her off. He wasn't mean when he spoke, but she knew that she said something he didn't like. After a moment, she spoke again.

Fluttershy: "You know I love you, Mirage....you're my precious boy and I will always love you...no matter what....." She put her hoof over his, he didn't nudge it away from him. He didn't say anything back to her, but they stayed there like that for awhile - till she fell asleep.

Mirage left when she fell asleep, locking the door and getting back to the throne room. He didn't want her to see any of the damage he had done.

So! This is based off of SEO1's question about Mirage's relationship with his mother and sister! Now, in this AU, it's just the nextgen children that have different personalities and stuff!

Mirage had started a war against Equesrtia, and taken over the Canterlot Castle to make his home and keep his mother away from the fighting - forcing the princesses to take shelter in the castle of the two sisters.

Mirage may be evil here - but Fluttershy is still his mother and he could never bring himself to cause her any harm, even if it means locking her away. But who is really protecting who?
